Last month’s discussion post about superstition was a lot of fun to read! June’s post will be tangentially related: this month I want to know if you believe in divination. For clarity, this is the definition of ‘divination’ as per Google: the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means….
Over the past couple year and a half, we’ve slowly been accumulating lists of community recommendations for the best in creepy movies, games, books, and more – here’s the round up of all the related discussion posts thus far: MAY 2013: What’s Your Favorite Creepy Video Game? JULY 2013: What’s Your Favorite Scary Movie? AUGUST 2013:…
NEW HALLOWEEN THEME First, the obvious. Yes, we have a new layout going for Halloween! Consider it Creepypasta.com’s Halloween costume, if you will. I hope that everyone enjoys the look – it will definitely be up for a few weeks at least, and if the community likes it enough, we can easily keep it and…
As most of you have no doubt noticed, a new comment system has been implemented. We are now using the DISQUS commenting system, which will add the following features: You can set up and customize your own Disqus profile – my hope is that this will satisfy those of you who kept asking for user profiles…
This month’s topic was suggested by Ahriannah. You can suggest future discussion posts (as well as find links to old posts) here. It’s true that we’ve already had a discussion post called How Did You Discover Creepypasta?, however I do believe that this month’s question deals with a different angle of the same basic concept. Rather telling…
One frequent discussion in the comments both here and over at Crappypasta is what, exactly, makes a good character. Some people seem to eschew any detail about the character’s traits or life, preferring them to be a blank slate for the reader to imagine as their own proxy within the story. Others like characters to…
Over at Crappypasta, we’ve been trying to find our footing in regards to how to categorize the submissions that end up there. We’ve been getting a lot of helpful suggestions, but one in particular gave us pause. Shogunfish suggested a ‘Ripoff Rituals’ category – you know, for those rituals that are all risk, no reward…
For information about the writing contest that is acting as a companion to this month’s discussion post, please click here. In order to help everyone get inspired before the contest submissions open, this month’s discussion post will be a sort of gaming pasta general chat. Which tropes have been so overdone that they’re no longer…
Share Your Unusual Fears Happy December, everyone! Since submissions are closed, I thought it might be nice to have a discussion topic that will be – I hope – conducive to inspiring new pastas. Closed submission periods are intended not only to give me time to catch up on the backlog, but also to give…
Welcome to possibly the longest-named post on the entire site! It fits, because this is going to be a long post – I’ve got a lot of ground to cover about the whole book club idea before we begin. Exposition, go! Today we’re going to start the “creepypasta book club” that was discussed in previous…
It’s time for another Creepypasta giveaway! Geek Chic Cosmetics is an indie brand that specializes in making fragrances, nail polish, and makeup based off popular “nerd” culture – so lots of video games, sci-fi, cult classic movies, etc are referenced in their names. This set caught my eye because it uses as inspiration a number…
This month, we’re breaking the discussion post pattern. I knew that I wanted to ask something about Halloween, but I was having a hard time settling on the topic. So I’m going to take the easy road out and make this month’s post a place for all-encompassing Halloween chatter. After all, it’s the closest thing…
This month’s topic was suggested by Dave Taylor, and big thanks to him because I was having trouble coming up with a topic! It’s pretty self-explanatory. If you’re a reader only, why do you feel so drawn to reading scary and creepy stories? If you’re a writer, do you have a reason for your desire…
Hey, guys! I’ve been plotting this post for awhile, but the site had other ideas, so this is going up a bit later than intended… As I’m sure you’re all very aware, the holiday season is upon us. I’ve been kicking around the idea that we could try some crowd-funded charity as a community, and…
This month, I’d like to discuss a topic that caused me to fall into a pretty deep reddit rabbit-hole (you know, you start reading one thread and suddenly it’s hours later and you’re in some weird subreddit several degrees beyond where you first started) a few weeks back. If any of you paid attention to…
This month’s topic was suggested by Predhead. He may not be an official co-admin anymore, but he still lurks and (kinda) loves you guys! We’ve had posts about creepy video games and movies, and this post is similar – but not entirely. We want to hear about your favorite “creepy” music, but with some specific…
I’ve mentioned it here and there, but I like listening to paranormal podcasts or radio shows. I’ve mentioned Anything Ghost with Lex Wahl and Welcome to Nightvale before, and while the main show has gotten a bit too New Agey for my tastes, I still listen to Coast 2 Coast AM’s “special” Halloween and New…
Remember a few months ago when I asked for your favorite creepy video games? I’d mentioned that I planned to do similar posts for books, movies, and maybe even television shows and music – and since July means that a lot of you have the free time of summer break to spend watching creepy movies,…
UPDATE 2/4: I’m working on reading submissions and getting things scheduled. Expect to see new pastas on the main page starting on February 8th, and please do visit Crappypasta if you’re really starving for new pastas! I’ve been updating it for about a week now, and I’m sure the authors would appreciate some constructive criticism….
If you’re reading this and you don’t have a good antivirus and malware scanner/defense program active, GO AWAY and just stick to RSS for now. Actually, that’s probably a good idea anyhow. RSS your hearts out, and I’ll post another update when I’m more confident that the coast is clear. For those of you not…
If you’ve never heard the term “urban legend” or “urban myth” before, it refers to – in a definition shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia – “a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true. As with all folklore and mythology, the designation suggests…
You’ve probably noticed already that the fall rating pumpkins have given way to Christmas stars – and to get us even more in the holiday spirit, it’s time for a Christmas giveaway! I’ll admit it: I really like Christmas, so I got a little carried away and bought more stuff to give away than I’d…
This month’s topic was suggested by Mockingbird and ties in with the August 2014 Book Club post (this month’s selected reading is The Mothman Prophecies by John A. Keel) quite nicely, I think! General Cryptozoology Chatter is the name of the game this month. For example, what are your favorite cryptids? Which beings and creatures…
