One day, a kid got what he thought was a genius idea. He’d find a way to stay overnight in his school. Just to be able to say he did it, the idea of the story that it would make thrilled him. He had no idea how right he was. The major problem of the…
“Look at it go, sweetie!” the loving father joyfully called out to his little girl, pointing upward toward the kite flying high above the secluded beach. “Here baby, you try.” The little girl stood there shy, timid and melancholy as she stared skyward at the pale, flapping kite. This particular kite always reminded the girl…
In the year of our Lord, 1587, celebration filled the spring air for the good people of Roanoke Colony. Winter had been unyielding once again, and the menace of war with the Spanish had severed much-needed replenishment of goods and supplies. As one of England’s earliest endeavors at the establishment of a permanent settlement in…
“You may commence, Chief Inspector.” The two constables started to write down notes as I began, my sweating forehead reflecting the bright shine of the desk lamp despite the harsh cold temperature. A notebook with a cheap webcam was recording our talk. “We were called the September 29th, Dundee division. John, Pamela and I. It…
We laughed and laughed about it for weeks. The whole idea of it was just blasphemy. It was like a bad horror movie escaped out of a $2 bin at the Lucky’s gas station and made its way to reality. They called him “The Carrier” and as soon as the Jacob Monroe video hit YouTube…
The night was suffused with a bone-chilling mist that clung to the abandoned streets of Crestwood. Detective Ryan Brooks stepped out of his car, his breath forming wispy clouds in the frigid air. The disappearances from the morgue had confounded the entire town—bodies vanishing without a trace, leaving only unanswered questions in their wake. Ryan…
Father, forgive me, for I have sinned. … I never had taste for art, but sometimes you get an invite to the finest gallery you could ever be invited to: free food, rich women, cheap security and expensive art. The whole situation was fantastic for a skilled ne’er-do-well such as myself. I was to walk…
The first account – it was in a warm September A month still haunted by the saddening winter. If well I remember, the winds still lashed The village where, upon dusk, dogs barked The place where, until dawn, no soul wandered. That dame, I first saw her in a mere instant When I uttered, abruptly,…
“We knew we were scouting for caves, but didn’t have an exact search location. The Sarge had us pair off and reconnoiter in all four directions. Bradley and Jones were the first ones to lose audio contact, although we could still track their movements on our grids.” “Munch and Green were next to go. Same…
You’d fallen asleep to late-night television, but curiously woke up to the sounds of the static playing on the T.V. As you sit up, rubbing your eyes, you read the scrawling words of the Emergency Broadcast System “This is just a test – This is just a test – This is just a test…” You…
First off -before we get too deep into this I’m telling you trolls and ‘yeah rights’ out there to sit down and behave yourselves. This story is true, and one any of you naysayer’s could uncover yourself given enough actual footwork and patience. Second, if whoevers reading this gets their chills from blood and guts…
It was probably nothing, he thought, suppressing a shiver of fear; just next doors cat jumping down from the bureau, or the broom falling over in the kitchen. After all, everybody knows that in the dead of night, even the smallest sound pierces the veil of silence and encroaching dreams like the report of a…
Like every other parent, mine had always wanted to take pictures of ‘precious’ moments. Most of them consist of me with food on my face and other cliches. I recently found a box of these photos. They were all old Polaroids, I still have the camera that was used to take them. I took a…
You get on the bus at around 11 PM. Finally. Later than you’d like. Much, much later. But at least, tired as you are, you’re finally on, headed home for the evening. You hadn’t expected the group meeting for your final project to drag on for so long, but your group got distracted and started…
The snow rests pale on the naked metal of the shacks around me. The pastel paint stripped away in ugly patches, the rusted iron underneath leers orangish-red at my intrusion – like a thousand fiery eyes set in the suffocating whiteness that is all around me. There is no one here in this deserted little…
Are you familiar with this thing we call meditation? Well, that was a foolish thing to ask. Of course you know what meditation is. It’s the thing new age gurus and hippies advocate to improve your well-being. Very simple stuff, y’know. You just sit cross-legged on a surface (hard or soft), close your eyes, get…
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” I said solemnly as I pulled up in front of my friend’s house. She dug her phone from her purse and waved it at me. “Call me now, and I’ll stay on the phone with you until you get home. Don’t be scared. There isn’t anything in the dark that isn’t…
I smiled as the waiter came up to me. I heard some stories about this restaurant being disturbing, but everything was fine. Until this point. I felt my grin slip off my face as I heard her utter a string of forbidden words. “I’m sorry, sir. We’re all out of garlic bread.” CREDIT: Anonymous
Array 1- Channel 4. Ursa Minor once had six stars. So did Cygnus. I know most of you don’t believe me. In fact it’s possible that none of you do. But I swear on the graves of my family that it’s true. Every word. They’ve been here ever since the early 80s. They hide in…
I awoke with a startle, as if someone had shaken me awake. All was quiet, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I always have a night light on, as a precaution, and it was functioning as beautifully as ever, the near-vacant room illuminated in its shine. However, when I directed my focus to the…
Shortly after turning 12 my family moved to a much larger, albeit older, house. I had my choice of 3 bedrooms (being oldest does have its perks) and resolved to bunker down in the basement. This decision was based on isolation and being able to hear my parents come downstairs. The walk-in closet was just…
Statistically speaking, you are a deist. Nine in ten people on the entire earth believe in some god or set of such. Christianity, Hindu, Islam, Judaism, Hellenists, you name it. You believe that your all powerful being of choice created the universe. And most of you are certain that you are right. But you’re not….
I have been suffering from insomnia for quite a while now. No, it’s not because of Reddit. When I do sleep, I have this reoccurring dream. I suppose “reoccurring dream” is putting it lightly. Let’s call it a “reoccurring shit-your-pants party”. During this “dream” it starts out like any normal day. I wake up, curse…
I’ve locked myself in this room with my laptop. I…I don’t know when they’re coming, where they’re coming from. Hell, I don’t even know IF they’re coming. But what I do know is that they’re out there. They are right outside my door, in my backyard, hidden behind the trees just out of sight. All…
