Horror stories are all about monsters. Things out to get you. Eat a few people, make a bloody mess, and have you scared for your life. But…no one ever wants to consider where monsters come from. Or why we are so eager to read about them… I have a story to tell, though, believe me…
This is my last will…I’m recording this now. I don’t have much time left. Well…not so much of a will, really. Everyone I know is dead, missing of seconds away from death. I don’t know how it went so wrong. It was supposed to be something that would grant me eternal wealth, riches and longevity….
As a young radio DJ back in the 80’s I was beyond thrilled when I landed my first job at a local station. But my excitement quickly turned to dread when I was assigned to the night shift. It wasn’t just the strange hours that unnerved me; it was the stories I heard from my…
I had been in the apartment about 6 months when I started to see them. They should’ve scared me but they didn’t. The only thing I felt at first, as I recall, was fascination. To me it seemed as though it were happening to someone else. It was as if I were watching them on…
In a dilapidated office building somewhere in Connecticut is one of the few elevators in the Western world that has a button labeled ’13’ amongst its choices of floors. If you enter after midnight, crawling through the loosely boarded up window on the South side of the building, you will find the elevator doors standing…
I remembered that my mother had said that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but today, the sky didn’t even maroon in that direction. I stared at the horizon, the pavement cold, and slowly numbing the pain, waiting for the signs of a new day to scatter the stars back…
This all happened when I was 13. Things weren’t great at home, And I drifted into the habit of going out very late most nights and just walking aimlessly around, exploring the pretty dull town in which I grew up. My parents went to bed early since they had actual responsibilities, so it was pretty…
Staring at the clock, Brandon heaved a sigh as the digital numbers switched once again, marking the death of yet another minute as he sat outside the Sun Theater waiting for his girlfriend to get off her shift at the Flying Saucers bar. The gently humming engine of the older model Dodge filled the air,…
They say when you take a picture of someone you capture their soul in the camera. They also say if you print it off, that picture contains the soul itself and you can control them with it. I’m not sure where to start. Do you know what the Primordial Soup is? A veritable ocean of…
Part 1- Everything in its Right Place “There are two colours in my head There are two colours in my head What was that you were trying to say? What was that you were trying to say?” 1-5-1. Weird riffs. Voice sampling. Lyrical randomness. I could see through everything in this song. It was disturbing….
Every month a beautiful woman would drop her film off at the camera store to get it developed. He didn’t know her name, but she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and was also a wonderful photographer. It made his day when he got to develop her photos. The pictures were of…
In some television markets, people get two different versions of the same channel. This is usually caused by affiliates being nearby–for example, while living in New Jersey receiving the ABC affiliate from both New York City and Philadelphia, or living in Southern California and getting both the Los Angeles and San Diego stations. For the…
It is so dark in here, so dreadfully dark. I have come to hate this darkness for it comes much too frequently. My body is still, as if numbed. The motion I can sense, as I am being carried away, is quick paced and very rough. Where I am is unknown but I do know…
There were giants on the earth in olden days, and Methuselah lived to be 969 years old. Is it accurate to dismiss these accounts as fantasy or allegory? Years ago in my freight-hopping days, I climbed into an open boxcar on a rural siding out in the middle of nowhere and was surprised to see…
“15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.” Job 34:15 People yell and run around me. Papers fly everywhere from the nurse’s charts and the doctors knock down the patients as they run to the stairwell. What’s going on? Why is everybody in such a hurry? I stumble aimlessly through…
Call it sleep paralysis. I don’t care. At this point, I’m used to people throwing explanations and diagnoses at me. Everybody wants to be the one to make sense of what I’m saying. I can tell you now-it does not make sense. It does not make sense and I could not care less about your…
A few months ago, I’d been browsing Tumblr for interesting things. That was the day I found Zasphas. Zasphas had a normal looking blog at first glance. Typical vintage pictures, images of celebrities, food, etc. I followed her for some movie GIFs. But then, just last week, she posted some text, under a “Read More”…
There once was a magical kingdom of sleep Where children drifted to after counting their sheep And it was ruled by blankets and pillows and beds Who would send happy thoughts to little children’s heads. But in this land of joy and bliss There was on pillow who ran amiss He had been fluffed and…
The tipper tapper of a finger echoes through the small dark room. Sometimes even whispers bounce off the walls from other rooms, whispers that do not make sense to me. I would hear things like, “Stop it, he’ll see us” and “Quickly, don’t trust him” or just the moans of torment and despair. Living your…
“Come here and try this with us!” You awake to your friends gathered around the coffee table in front of you. That’s right… You had a small party while your parents were out of town for the weekend. Well, if you could call it that. Only four people showed up, after all. The couch you…
I have to get out. The walls, twisted rebar and cracked concrete, seemed to stretch on forever. I can’t remember where I am, why I came to be here; I can’t even remember my last name. All I know is that if I get out, I will live. If I don’t… I have to get…
Almost everyone has had a moment of déjà vu. Going about your business, you travel to school or work, or are simply strolling through the place you call home when something catches your attention. You’re sure you’ve seen it before yet you’re unable to recall when or where. You dismiss it, convinced that your memory…
The screen flickered as a man typed his story into the computer. His mind was racing, and so was his heart. He wanted the world to know as soon as possible about what he had discovered. What lay ahead. What nearly ended his life. As he typed, he turned his head every now and then…
James said he found the iPhone in the lawn as he was leaving the party. Afterward, we wondered what had really happened, how he had actually found it. But then, when he told us, we had no reason to not believe his story. He was walking out, he explained, completely hammered, and there it was:…
