James said he found the iPhone in the lawn as he was leaving the party. Afterward, we wondered what had really happened, how he had actually found it. But then, when he told us, we had no reason to not believe his story. He was walking out, he explained, completely hammered, and there it was:…
As I crossed the threshold of the library, I noticed that all sounds of the street stopped. I shrugged it off as being well soundproofed. I slowly weaved my way through the aisles, finding nothing that drew my attention. As I drew deeper into the depths of the building in, the lights grew dimmer until…
It was her platinum blonde hair with silver highlights that stood out most in his memory. And that she was pale, thin and amazingly beautiful. He backtracked his thoughts. No not pale. Milky white. Her name was Eleanor, but she went by Nellie. Or Nell. He called her Nellie and she seemed to be ok…
Almost everyone has had a moment of déjà vu. Going about your business, you travel to school or work, or are simply strolling through the place you call home when something catches your attention. You’re sure you’ve seen it before yet you’re unable to recall when or where. You dismiss it, convinced that your memory…
My name is not Xin, but that is what you can call me. Everything I am about to tell you is completely true. I believe I was born in the early 90’s. “Believe” is the right word in this scenario because my otherwise superb memory (in fact, it was once flawless) only begins in 1997….
Paolo fed me one last strawberry from the painted clay bowl. He let the juice drip down my chin and then kissed away every last trace. For a moment I was lost in the beauty of his herculean bronzed skin and the sound of the ocean crashing on the shore. A warm breeze blew into…
I had a nightmare earlier this week. I say nightmare, but I realise now it was more like a vision, a vision of the horrors yet to progress. I was alone in my house, like I am every day of the week, because my mum has to go to work. My best friend, Immy, was…
The mind. A realm that is mysterious to me even to this day. Though I take refuge there during long, hot days to get away from the bright, burning sun, escape there in the afternoon, when the sky is gray with storm clouds and the sun has all but receded, the mind’s true nature eludes…
It was just like any other day when I received the call. I had been sketching the horizon for the past hour when my phone began ringing with an unfamiliar number. I would have ignored it if the call hadn’t been from my home town. Fast forward 24 hours later, and I’m sitting in a…
Ever since the incident I’ve been so paranoid. No one would even really explain what exactly happened that night. I couldn’t make any sense of it, even though I was there. Every single detail is still etched into my brain, but I still can’t tell anyone what happened really. The car pulled up to the…
My lilies are my most prized possession. Hand picked. I will only take the most supremely beautiful specimens. They must be white as an angel’s wings, and so soft and delicate to the touch that you must be careful of the harm you bring to them. Perhaps it is selfish of me to hoard them…
After a night of carousing with his buddies, Billy was ready to head home. “Are you sure you want to walk home by yourself?” asked Todd, “You’ve heard the rumors, right?” “What rumors?” ask Billy. “You know, the problem…with vampires.” He said that last word almost in a whisper. “Oh God! Really? I can’t believe…
It wasn’t a big deal at first, you know? It was just another story online, one you’d read in the comments of a YouTube video, designed to scaring you into posting it on eight other videos. You know the kind, where you die a horrible death or your crush will reject you if you don’t…
“I wouldn’t go in there if I were you,” says Oliver to Peter, as they stand at the entrance of one of the many openings of the Clintwood City Sewage System. The entrance has a thick metallic wire fence covering the hole with an opening that has been cut with what looks like a hacksaw…
A few months ago, I’d been browsing Tumblr for interesting things. That was the day I found Zasphas. Zasphas had a normal looking blog at first glance. Typical vintage pictures, images of celebrities, food, etc. I followed her for some movie GIFs. But then, just last week, she posted some text, under a “Read More”…
On the first night Julie laid eyes upon the shadowy ‘Chicken Man’, there was a steady downpour. The figure, who was distant enough to seem beetle-like to Julie’s eye, lurched steadily towards her family’s barn. The Chicken Man would appear on every night of a full moon, and walk into that very barn where the…
There once was a magical kingdom of sleep Where children drifted to after counting their sheep And it was ruled by blankets and pillows and beds Who would send happy thoughts to little children’s heads. But in this land of joy and bliss There was on pillow who ran amiss He had been fluffed and…
In almost every building, there is one corner, one small enclosure that no one ever looks at. It’s the corner in the basement that has been blocked by a disused sofa for years; the thin space in the attic between the wall and the stacks and stacks of crates full of junk you never use,…
I can’t even begin to explain on how glad I am to be moving from the country; however I cannot say the same for Jay. We were both 13 and we considered ourselves explorers, but that was our downfall. I had lived in the country for about two months in this little town and had…
“15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.” Job 34:15 People yell and run around me. Papers fly everywhere from the nurse’s charts and the doctors knock down the patients as they run to the stairwell. What’s going on? Why is everybody in such a hurry? I stumble aimlessly through…
I smiled as the waiter came up to me. I heard some stories about this restaurant being disturbing, but everything was fine. Until this point. I felt my grin slip off my face as I heard her utter a string of forbidden words. “I’m sorry, sir. We’re all out of garlic bread.” CREDIT: Anonymous
I. Well, I’ve finished my education and learned everything there is to learn about singing, and despite the difficulties, I’ve found myself at the heart of Music City and struggling to get my material out there. I haven’t been able to meet with any labels and I’m barely surviving on gig money. I have an…
From the Case File of the Marquis Manor Massacre Suspect: Nicholas Jacobs Investigator: Michael Wells The audio tape clicks on and a voice comes in… It does not matter what more I say or add to my testament. You and the others will not believe me, and perhaps it is better this way. The saint…
Sleep, strangely, is seen as the best refuge of the sufferer. You’ve never understood why this is; it’s the place where your subconscious has reign – that alien, unknown part of you that hides out of sight and has total control over your body. If anything, sleep frightens you. Having a stranger living in your…
