5 Haunted Bars and Restaurants that Offer The Eeriest Experience

Estimated reading time — 3 minutes

Having your favourite meal at a bar or a restaurant is among life’s simplest pleasures. At least, that’s when most of us expect to have a good time and go home feeling satisfied.  But how would you feel if you suddenly saw a strange ghost pulling up a chair while you’re in a mid-bite?

Seeing an eerie apparition of an unshaped, uninvited guest can definitely be something to be scared of, especially at places for eating and drinking, where you normally expect safety. However, there are many bars and restaurants with a reputation for being haunted. In this article, we will talk about 5 of these kinds of spots that are popular among horror enthusiasts.

1. Muriel’s Jackson Square, New Orleans, LA

Miuriel’s Jackson Square restaurant has quite a story behind it. In 1814, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan lost his whole house for playing poker. Jourdan passed away, but it is not believed that he truly left this world. Today, staff and guests still report odd shadows on the walls and eerie activity in the Séance Lounge upstairs.

Muriel’s Jackson Square restaurant remains popular, so those who visit can often notice his ghost, reportedly banging on the walls and breaking glasses. And if you go to the second floor Seance Room, expect to see him wandering around, worried about the debts from gambling. Some guests even leave a quiet note at an empty table, just in case he’s still there. It’s not surprising  — this is New Orleans, after all. But if the story tempts you to win back what Jourdan lost, we suggest keeping the risk on your phone and trying trusted online casinos for playing slots, instead of betting the house.

2. Hotel del Coronado, San Diego, CA

Hotel del Coronado’s bar-restaurant has hosted a lot of people who have had an incredible experience. That was until in 1892, a 24-year-old Kate Morgan came here to meet her lover. When he didn’t show up for the following five days, she was later found dead on the restaurant stairs.

It is not known if she was murdered by her lover or anyone else, or if she took her own life. Either way, the guests of the hotel have reported their sights around the dining area. She usually gazes at the sea, supposedly waiting for her man or planning her revenge, while she sits heartbroken.

3. Poogan’s Porch, Charleston, SC

Poogan’s Porch restaurant is home to Lowcountry cuisine that includes the famous crab soup and fried chicken. However, the visitors constantly try to report seeing an unusual apparition that was harassing them.

This is a ghost of Zoe St Armand. Once she got out of bed at night to search for her missing sister, but she was so lost in grief that she forgot her sister had already been dead for a long time. When she realized this, she fell on the stairs and passed away. Since then, her poor ghost hasn’t left this restaurant and keeps scaring the customers.

4. Hotel Blackhawk, Autograph Collection, Davenport, IA

This now fancy-looking hotel was first built in 1915, but was restored and renovated in 2010 into a luxurious place. It has hosted famous people and celebrities like Barack Obama, Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon, and many more. Unfortunately, not every one of these famous guests was able to leave the hotel.

On the eighth floor, in one of the rooms had a horrific stroke. Despite this, his ghost seemingly has never left this hotel. In the hotel’s restaurant and bowling area, you can often see his apparition lurking around and mysteriously showing up out of nowhere.

5. The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, CO

This hotel is famous for having four on-site restaurants, a lounge, and a whiskey bar, consisting of 1200 kinds of whiskey. Besides all this, it is also known for the nightmarish events that happened in room 217, which actually inspired Stewen King’s tale, The Shining.

If you dine in this restaurant, you might feel an unseen spirit touching you and your hair and hear an eerie, inhuman voice speaking. There is a big chance that the same spirit will follow you into your room and crawl into your bed. In addition, there are stories that beneath the restaurant, there are tunnels where there’s a ghost of a golden retriever.

Bottom Line

Yes, bars and restaurants can be enticing and inviting. But at the same time, they are not always as normal as they seem at first glance. You may not even know if a ghost is lurking around and has decided to make you choke up on your food by appearing in front of you. Either way, after reading this article, you now know about the 5 bars and restaurants you need to be aware of, unless you would like to have the eeriest and the creepiest experience as you dine.
