The Photographs

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

A few months ago a friend of mine, who is an up-and-coming nature photographer, decided to spend a day and night alone in the woods outside of our town. She wanted to get photos of the woods and wildlife as naturally as she could for her portfolio. She wasn’t afraid of being alone, as she had camped by herself many times before. She set up a tent in the middle of a small clearing and spent the day taking pictures. She filled up four rolls of film on that trip, but something was strange about them. What she saw in those pictures has stayed with her ever since, and she is still trying to recover from the trauma the have caused her.

Almost every picture was accounted for, save for one picture in each roll of film. These pictures were of her, asleep in her tent in the middle of the night.

  1. I didn’t really find this creepy or scary but i liked the story line for it. It reminds me of a story i read with the guy recording himself when he was sleeping and a next one with this guy keeps getting tapes with his house and every new tape it gets closer XD. Anyway nice lay out but yet again not creepy/scary

  2. As a photographer the creepy level is even higher. One knowing someone else touched your camera. Two your alone in the bloody woods and someone is taking pictures of you while you sleep….

  3. Definitely needs to be longer and more atmospheric, good concept, reasonably done, but deserves a longer, more detailed story to really wear its potential properly! It’s a wonderful concept, that, whilst a little cliche, can make some amazing pasta, but this left me feeling like I had read a synopsis rather than the story D:

  4. This is scary stuff,I found a pic of me asleep on my cell phone,I was living alone at the time and my dog is asleep next to me so it couldnt have been a person that took it or she would have went off. When I blew the pic up on a computer there is a demon face in the pic and one of my eyes is being pulled open at a wierd angle and its rolled up in my head. This is no BS I still have it saved on my phone.

  5. <3 this pasta. Short and sinisterly sweet enough it almost sends shivers up my spine. Conveys a hundred times more creepy in two paragraphs than many pastas do in many pages.

  6. If some freak-o took pictures of you while you were sleeping, would you really suffer trauma for it for the rest of your life – especially considering he/she didn’t do anything to you? Well, I guess everyone is different but the thing with writing these stories is to take the average person into account (unless your story was specifically going the other direction which it wasn’t).

  7. normaly i’d say she’s sexy but this was actualy really scary…most probably because it’s actualy quite believable

  8. IM SORRY- I FOUND THIS MECHANISM IN THE WOODS AND WAS FLASHING IT AEROUND EVERYWHERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NITE.
    HOPE IT DIDNT SCARE EANYONE.

  9. @82 Eh, it seemed like it, since usually you either miss the point of the story or try to make some fun at it in the comments…I perceived your little foray into attempted creepiness to be emulative of welldone.

    :D

  10. I think this pasta is very good, creepy and well-written. I actually have had this idea for a story before, but it was put away with many other ideas that I wasn’t writing at that moment, and was forgotten about. If this happened to me, I’d be creeped out, and if I ever found out what did it I’d call it a perve and, depending on what it is, run for my life. ^_^

  11. @77

You can’t try to be Mr. Welldone unless what you have to say is relevent, spelled correctly, and actually creepier than pre-teen campfire stories.

  12. shortys roc my sox

strange things lurk in the woods. things noone can explain. things beyond any nightmare you’ve ever had.

thay creep around late at night. they move swiftly but silently. all you would hear if any thing is a slight rustle of leaves. you try and make your self belive its just the wind. But in side you know someone (or SOMETHING) is following you.

  13. maybe the camera was like weird and she left it on and it took photos of her LOL? pervy cameraaaa.
Kinda scary :\ maybe another phtographer camping right next too her wanted too say hi and found her so hot he took pictures?

  14. Thanks for all the nice comments, guys. I didn’t come up with this idea, but I paraphrased it from what I remembered since I couldn’t find the original.

  15. I like this. First creepypasta since the red-eyes-keyhole one to genuinely creep me out. (Like other people have said, this is creepier than La Nuit because La Nuit just made me think ‘well, he sleepwalks. so?’.)

  16. @66: No, no, the pictures of her sleeping weren’t missing. When it says “accounted for” it means that those pictures were the ones she took. Therefore, the unaccounted for pictures weren’t taken by her.

..Granted, the author probably could’ve used better wording than “accounted for” as that’s causing confusion for a lot of people.

  17. I liked this one better than the recording artist one. La Nuit could be explained away as sleep walking or something, but this one is air tight.

  18. i liked this one, it was a good read it wasn’t until after i realized it didn’t make sense because no one leaves one extra picture on each roll of film they shoot, but where it says
“Almost every picture was accounted for” gets me… either this is a plot hole or its implying that something CHANGED the pictures? my first impression was someone sneaking in and taking pictures but im not sure very creepy good pasta =) it makes you think.

  19. @55: That’s the creepy part. She couldn’t have, meaning someone else (or someTHING else) did.

I like it. Short, but spooky.

  20. Alright, it was me, I’ll admit it.

A bit of Timey-Wimey stuff going on though.

but seriously, interesting, and delicious pasta right there.

    WHO WAS PHOTOGRAPHER!?

  21. ahh, i remember a few years ago a girl told me this had actually happened to her friends and it creeped me the hell out. i was actually planning on submitting this as creepypasta myself but someone beat me to it!

and just to get it out of the way: BUT WHO WAS PHOTOGRAPHER?

  22. The Persoformerly known as 'Noneya'

    But, WHO WAS BLAIRE WITCH?

It reminds me of that one story with the med student recording his sleep, then hearing his door opening in the recording.

  23. Wait, hold the phone…

She went for only one day and a night, correct? Then how does each roll of film have a picture of her sleeping in the middle of the night?
It would be hard to fill one roll, go to sleep, fill another, go to sleep again, fill another, go to sleep again, and finally one more, then go to sleep for the last time; especially in one night.

Could use working, but has potential!

  24. Well, that’s creepy. It’s like the red in the keyhole one where there’s a disturbing revelation later on, but by then there’s no danger. Still creepy. I wonder, though… Did it come back as she changed rolls, or did it come once and change the roll for every picture?

  25. BUT WHO WAS PHOTOGRAPH!

Anyway, I liked this story, it’s short, well-written, and the realism makes it creepier. Great job.
