Werewolf and Vampires in Pop Culture

Werewolves and vampires have cemented a place in popular culture, making appearances in films, literature, short stories, paintings, poems, drama and ballet performances. They are even influencing the gaming industry, with many video games, mobile games and casino games now being made with these themes.

One of the latest games, which proves how well these scary characters work is the Curse of the Werewolf Megaways, a slot game produced by Pragmatic Play. This casino title has been a huge success, not just because of its unique features, but in a large part due to the timeless infatuation with Werewolves.

The earliest vampire film was produced in 1913, simply called The Vampire, and it didn’t take long for the Dracula films to catch on. Quite spookily, the first Werewolf film was also shot in 1913 and was similarly titled The Werewolf.  However, true fans would know that Werewolf fiction goes back even further with the first reference in a novel dating back 8 AD.

The Latest and Upcoming Werewolf and Vampire Movies

1. The Wolf of Snow Hollow

The Wolf of Snow Hollow was released towards the end of 2020. Dead bodies start to pile up around a small mountain town as the local police department realise they are dealing with a monster. Is it a vampire or a werewolf? Watch it to find out!

2. Vikingulven

Vikingulven tells the familiar story of a single parent and her daughter moving to a new town for a new job. However, the daughter witnesses a murder at a local party she attends, but it’s no ordinary murder. This werewolf film is set to be a cracker, so keep your eyes peeled for it in August 2021!

3. Morbius

Morbius is a Marvel creation and will soon be made into a new movie in the first half of 2021. The story is that of a Greek introverted child who grows up to become a Nobel prize winner in biology. His drive for success is boosted by his own health issues where his blood is decaying. Little does he know that he is transforming into a pseudo vampire type as he grows old. You might have seen Morbius before in the comics; he once confronted Blade and Spiderman.

Dracula may just be the most successful film series of any in these genres. It has been universally known and enjoyed since its beginnings in the 1930s. And there are compelling reasons why it will be remade in the next years, with many suggesting it will be ready by as early as 2022. This Universal production is to be directed by Karyn Kusama and there are huge expectations of this being one of the best ever.

Where Can I Watch These Movies?

Most of these releases are (or will be) available on popular streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Video, VUDU and YouTube – as well as the cinema. Remember to keep the garlic around!
