YOU

Estimated reading time — 2 minutes

The next time you go to the library, be sure to keep an eye out for a certain book. There is no other book like it, and no copies. It can turn up anywhere in the library. It can be on any shelf, any table, in the hands of any person. The cover is made of leather, and the book is titled “YOU”.

Once you find the book, don’t open it. Go to the librarian to check the book out. The librarian should give you a strange look and utter “Oh… that one…”.

Bring the book home. You may be tempted to open the book, but make sure you don’t. At midnight, step into your closet, book in hand, and shut the door. Make sure that all you see is darkness, and that the only noise you can hear is your heartbeat.

Open the book. In the book contains all of the knowledge of your past, present, and future. As you flip the pages of the book, moving from past events to present events, stop once you reach the end of the present events. You will know when to stop when you see yourself in the closet, reading the book.

Before you move on to read future events, think about whether you REALLY want to know about the future.

If you decide not to read further, close the book, leave it on the floor in your closet, and leave. Be sure to keep the book INSIDE the closet. You will notice in the morning that the book is gone.

If you decide to read your future events, begin to turn the pages of the book. It is extremely important that you DON’T scream when you read about your death. Don’t take your eyes off the book when you see yourself being dragged into the depths of darkness that was once your closet. Don’t blink as you see yourself being torn apart by a hungry beast, the bloody book laying on the floor next to your severed limbs. Don’t be surprised when you feel the beast’s hand on your shoulder…

  1. Ooh. Spooky. I liked this one. Short, sweet, and to the point. But also mind bending all the same. Excellent!

  2. This makes no sense. The beginning makes sense, but when you say the book tells you you are about to die if you keep reading, but you won’t die if you leave it there? That is what makes no sense.

  3. I liked it and though it was pretty nicely written. I didn’t get it all, but I got enough of it. It could use a little more detail, but overall it sent a chill down my spine.

  4. I love these types of pastas. When I read the part about the beasts hand on your shoulder call me crazy but I kinda felt something touch me O.o

  5. So if the book is gone in the morning, will I have to pay the late fees on the book? Ha! Good idea for a story!

  6. Good read. But again why would i seek this book out. Maybe a little more to add to it. I feel like i skipped a bunch of chapters. Otherwise good read.

  7. I don’t understand it.
Wouldn’t the monster have killed us already even if we didn’t read our future? Because the book tells our future. If we stop at the present. How aren’t we dead?

  8. I'm not anonymous

    YOU!!
    *Rock and roll music*
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR??!?!
    `
I actually went to the library and found this book in the Reference section, the librarian said I couldn’t check the book out, so I was like “dang it.” She said I could take it to the janitor’s closet though, and didn’t give me any weird looks or say “Oh… that one…”
    `
So I took it over to the Janitor’s closet, and read through the book. It was an interesting read about my life and finally I got to the present where I was reading about myself going inside a janitor’s closet. I felt like what the hell, let me just keep on reading. I turned the page to the last page of the book, and it looks like the following pages were ripped out.
    `
I left it inside the closet, told the librarian it was in there, and went home. When I woke up the next morning and opened my closet to pick out my clothes for the day, I saw the YOU book on the floor of the closet.

  9. This gave me such an amazing idea.

But aside from me, it kept me wide-eyed until the last paragraph. The death seemed out of order, like it’s going to rip me to bits AND THEN put it’s hand on my shoulder? He gunna hug my lifeless corpse? D’aww

Seriously though, as far as ritual pastas go, I liked it. I feel it would have served better NOT as a ritual pasta, but I’m just a diner and not the cook and I found myself licking my lips so…

  10. Hey it's the Rake

    So…
everyone who reads the book dies of the same beast and the only way to survive is to shut the book in the closet?
Why search it out in the first place if all you see is your past? It’s like your baby picture album, but haunted. :(

  11. Am I seriously the only person here who can accept the fact that a book that tells you your past, present and future is probably capable of letting you read it in the dark?

I udnerstood the ritual to mean, you flip the pages in the dark, and the book unlocks memories and images of your past and present. You see it in your mind as you flip the pages.

I loved this one. Rituals don’t always tend to work, but I thought this one did. Well done. 9/10 -> The ending could have been rearranged. :P

  12. I liked it. You could’ve said that the book had a faint glow or something so it was readable. Oh, and to the people who said “why get the book”. Well, kids/adults are curious…they like danger and mystery. That’s why we read delicious pasta!

  13. Kitkat Minecraft Gurl

Wow I like that pasta. I probably would’ve kept da book. PS I am also known as Captain Sprinklezz

  14. www.shafou.com

What if your closet is too small? Do you read it in front of a mirror at night with candles while you play chant what the book says? :)

  15. I have really got to quit reading this stuff in bed at night with the lights off. *peeks timidly over the covers at the gaping maw of my open closet door…

  16. I hate ritual pastas, and here’s why:

You always have this list of things to do, and why? There is never any reason tou. Ok, you read about your past and present? OK? And if you read about your future you die? What’s the point, then? You don’t get anything out of it.

I’ve always thought ritual pastas were the weakest, laziest for of pasta out there.

  17. You can’t read if all you see is darkness, hun.
However, I like this a lot. I think I can make a book like this. You inscribed on the front with black pages. maybe add on a strange aura to it like the other witches in my family…. idk this has potential.

  18. THEN WHO WAS....nevermind...

Why every time I compliment a story people vote my comment negative? Why vote at all? Guess ill quit commenting on these sh*ts and just read em!

  19. That last paragraph actually gave me chills, I even glanced behind me. That’s something I never do. Didn’t expect the ending.

I generally dislike pastas that go, “You! Yea you! Don’t do this thing… but do it!” Luckily you broke out of that concept quickly.

Still I would’ve liked more on an all-knowing book that details your past, present, and future… unless there’s already one.

    1. Nah, man. “Me” is the sequel, and the writer is working on the third entitled “I”. It’s kinda like Twilight, in that reading either series damns you to violent, bloody death and the eternal torture of your very soul.

  20. Does the book give you the power to read in the dark? Maybe there’s a mini book light you forgot to mention the librarian gives you…

  21. THEN WHO WAS....nevermind...

    I…..would…..prefer…..to ….NEVER…..check…that..EVIL….book…out!!!!!!! Good story however!

  22. What I want to know is how did I gain the ability to see in the dark…and when did reading a book = seeing a series of images? Close, but not perfect. 4/10

  23. It’s funny, I’m actually going to a libary in 49 minutes time, I think I might actually look around and see if there’s actualy a book called “You” in there. (Obviously I know the story is fake)

    1. Really? I find hiding in the closet at night kinky. Then again, that only applies to women. I do enjoy finding a lovely girl in the closet refusing to sleep with me because I’m not her type.

  24. I felt this one had great potential. (Especially—though now that I think of it, I’m not sure it was intentional—the idea that this Ritual Book could have been in the hands of another library patron, and for the purposes of The Ritual you just went and ripped it straight out of their grasp and ran off. That image made it 1000% better for me.)

The ending… meh. The whole point to GOOD ritual pastas is that you have to do all these horrible things, or let horrible things happen to you or the people you love or whatever, and in return you get a wish granted or some eternal power or get crowned the King of Everything or something like that. This? The only “reward” you get for seeing The Ritual through to the end is being dragged to your death, which you see illustrated in the Ritual Book, a concept that seems uncomfortably closely inspired by The Sun Dog by Stephen King.

(For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, kid takes pictures, pictures aren’t what he’s taking them of, dog begins appearing in pictures, with each successive picture gets closer, preparing to eat the kid.)

Sure, the “big reveal” is pretty scary. Oh no, the monster you’ve been seeing illustrated in your Ritual Book is touching you! You’re about to die! Aaaaahh! But seriously, why even search OUT the Ritual Book if the only way to survive is to leave it in your closet? Why bother looking for it at all?

To use the pasta terminology, this was like a lasagna. Excellent on top, soggy and cold and undercooked on the bottom. Refine your cooking (writing/plotting) skills, or at least get to know your oven (the horror genre/ritual pastas) better.

    1. You have an excellent point. When I wrote the pasta, I didn’t really have an idea about how it would go. I just typed what came up in my head and got this. I will make sure to keep your advice in mind next time I write a pasta, though. Thank you.

      1. Wow you guys are so smart. So smart in fact that you overlooked a giant fucking plot hole: how the hell are you going to read a book in the pitch dark closet? It’s def not a haunted kindle. Haha.

        1. xXDalavue_WhiteShadowXx

Be nice you dont need to cuse and you should give him tips to make his story better next time he writes

        2. The assumption I formed was a sort of magic book. If it can show past events, why can’t it glow?

        3. The way I imagined it was that you could “see” the events (like an illusion or something) as you flipped the pages.

      2. xXDalavue_WhiteShadowXx

You could of also like added something to continue a series or something like a webpage and you view your life ( same plot) but this time their is light so you could see. This was just an idea

        1. The Defenestrator

I’ve seen a creepypasta like that on here, (the twist is that if you edit it, bad things will happen, or something like that) but I’m not sure what the title was.

      3. It was a good one! I just wish that you would have switched the events at the end (beast’s hand on your shoulder and then being eaten or torn apart. Didn’t really need a being eaten part to still be good though…
