The Woman in the Oven

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

During the summer of 1983, in a quiet town near Minneapolis, Minnesota, the charred body of a woman was found inside the kitchen stove of a small farmhouse. A video camera was also found in the kitchen, standing on a tripod and pointing at the oven. No tape was found inside the camera at the time.

Although the scene was originally labeled as a homicide by police, an unmarked VHS tape was later discovered at the bottom of the farm’s well (which had apparently dried up earlier that year).

Despite its worn condition, and the fact that it contained no audio, police were still able to view the contents of the tape. It depicted a woman recording herself in front of a video camera (seemingly using the same camera the police found in the kitchen). After positioning the camera to include both her and her kitchen stove in the image, the tape then showed her turning on the oven, opening the door, crawling inside, and then closing the door behind her. Eight minutes into the video, the oven could be seen shaking violently, after which point thick black smoke could be seen emanating from it. The camera then continued to stationary point at the oven for another 45 minutes until the batteries apparently died.

To avoid disturbing the local community, police never released any information about the tape, or even the fact that it was found. Police were also not able to determine who put the tape in the well.

…or why the physical stature of the woman on the tape did not in any way resemble the stature of the woman found in the oven.

  1. Well the only theory is her spirit might be playing or either she let someone threw her tape. Co incident.

  2. Um…..this is my first time actually coming to Creepypasta.com and ive already heard the basic storied like Jeff the Killer and Slenderman esc. and lets just say a chill ran down my spine just now LOL

  3. my mind somehow processed the oven shaking as her transforming into the other woman.
    bake-a-bitch. (pardon the language)8

  4. I don’t know why but I laughed so hard at this comment

    Anonymous:
I don’t get why the details of the tape are scary. Easy explanation: Lady 1 cooks herself. Later, lady 2 disposes of lady 1′s body, chucks the tape in the well, then also cooks herself.

  5. Another easy solution the farmer forced lady 1 to kill herself and drugged lady 2 and killed her because he is a psychopath

  6. I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. that really reminds me of a movie. as i remeber correctly it turns out that there were two other guys behind the camera and that they killed several women that way…
does any of you remeber that movie?!

  8. Why is this creepy? I don’t get the ending.
Are we supposed to have some kind of sudden realisation when we read “The stature of the woman in the oven isn’t the same as the one on the camera?”

  9. I… I don’t know what to make of this… except that the most probable realistic cause of death might actually BE a psycho who went undetected, and made two women commit suicide the same way, with tape recorded evidence of one… but the tape had to be gotten rid of… but why leave the tape recorder there? wouldn’t that tip them off that there WAS a tape? As far as evidence of the first woman’s death, her bones could very well have been removed and buried on the property somewhere. They wouldn’t be looking for another body, if they think they have the ‘right’ evidence, right?

    OR maybe the demon idea.

  10. someone probably forced both of the women to commit suicide by burning to death in the oven , but avoided the camera shot, clue: it didn’t have audio. clue: 2 their were at the least 2 woman ( cant say their wasn’t more dead women , they could have just been the only ones reveled to the police) they did the exact same “suicide” ? it isn’t a coincidence.

  11. I don’t know if I’m just retarded, but has anyone ever considered possession? Since electronic devices are said to be able to capture the supernatural, perhaps the recorder picked up what happens to be the spirit that was possessing the woman, hence the two different ones.

But then again, the tape was found in the well, which proves that i AM retarded. :D

    1. NO! You are not retarded! I was thinking it had something to do with demon the whole time yet no one mentioned it in any of these comments. Maybe the woman knew she was possessed and decided that was the only way to send it back to hell… it would make sense if the demon didnt go back that easy, disfigured the corpse or something then somehow put the tape in the well…. okay that was far off my original thoughts about the demon thing but it works xD

  12. I think that this story would make for an interesting video. I appreciated this one- it had a fresh feeling that many other have lacked for me.

  13. A deranged man held a woman’s daughter at gunpoint, and made her cook herself on tape. Hence no audio. He then cooked the daughter, after having disposed of the woman and tape.

  14. Another possibility is that some murderer made a habit of killing women in this fashion, videoing it and tricking or terrorizing them into appearing to be willing victims. The girl they found was one of many, and the video they found was yet another.

  15. why are people saying that it was a murder? it specifically states that the woman on the video does everything herself.

the “good part” of this story is “what would drive them to this”. too bad it’s pretty up in the air…

  16. Juliet: Another, broader term is Voreaphilia, by the way

I would actually be one of those guys who is into it. Luckily, I have enough of a grip on reality to realize that killing and eating someone is not a very good idea, and should be kept to the realm of fantasy

  17. I just fuckin’ liked it.
Why does everyone always try to ruin the story with facts about how and why it wouldn’t work?
    Just enjoy the creepiness, Jesus.

  18. Not to mention the obvious skip on the camera that would be shown when the lady started to move about inside instead of being in the same position and then moving, and how she could have opened the door and escaped.

Unless of course, the murderer’s victim was asleep/unconscious.

  19. Excuse me but I would like to interject some common sense into this story.

    1) Woman sets up tape to record.
    2) Woman fakes starting the oven
    3) Woman gets in and 10 second later gets out
    4) Woman stops tape.
    5) Rewinds tape to before she gets out
    6) Woman shoves victim inside the oven
    7) Starts oven
    8) Starts tape and stays off screen
    9) Dismantles audio portion of the tape
    10) She places it down the well and leaves the country

She dismantled the audio for the reason that there would be an obvious skip when re-recording. Also one could easily hear the oven was off in the beginning.

Gary seems to have been the only one to have gotten it.

Everyone seems to have concluded that there were two deaths, and that the cause off the second was insanity induced suicide. Insanity of such a sort would not make the person hide a charred body so well that not even the police could find it.

To be frank this isn’t scary in the least when logic is involved.

  20. i think the woman in the oven kinda switched places with another woman outside, like drag her into the oven?
the tape wasnt edited btw, its one single continuous tape.

  21. Anyone ever heard of Dolcett or Gynophagia?

Gynophagia is, quite literally, the fetish of cooking and eating women.

Guys actually get off on writing/reading stories, manipulating photos and seeing pictures where women are captured, prepared, cooked in various ways, then eaten.

My best friend first told me this existed I didn’t believe her, but there are TONS of websites and groups dedicated to this sexual kink.

The REALLY weird thing is, it’s not just men that are into this!
Lots of women actually have a sexual desire to be cooked and eaten. There are audio recordings of real women talking about their specific fantasies, one woman I heard spoke at length about her desire to be spit roasted over a fire, her body covered in sauce, rotating as she cooked.

Another described in detail how she wanted to be prepared and slid into her waiting oven, then basted every 20 minutes as she cooked inside!

There are also many images of young women foolishly posing inside their own ovens, or on counters, etc.. or even positioned, lying on homemade aluminum foil platters, covered in sauce, vegetables placed around their bodies, pretending to be roasted!

The freaky thing is, there’s a LOT of people into this.

Perhaps this woman (or women) who ended up in the oven took their fantasies too far? Or perhaps someone helped them fulfill their ultimate fantasy?

Do a google search girls, you’ll be scared senseless to go on another blind date! I know I was!

What ever happened to a kiss at the door when your date is over?
Now a girl has to be prepared to be cooked and roasted like a turkey at the end of a date. :)

  22. Maybe the fact that the tape had no audio had something to do with it? Like that movie The Ring, but instead of dying in seven days, it just forces you to climb into an oven…after throwing the tape down a well… :/ nevermind.

  23. I like to think the tape was cursed. The first women found the tape, disposed of it and killed herself, and the tape she made of her suicide was found by the next victim of the curse.

  24. I loved this one the very first time I read it. I never speculated too much on the body swap so-as to not spoil the effect it had on me. it’s something like this I wish I could come up with.

  25. Don’t any of you get it?! The first woman was an immortal. She got into the oven, which didn’t harm her, then swapped places with another woman, perhaps one hundreds of miles away. This second woman tried to escape (the shaking) and finally burned (the smoke), and is the one the police found.

    …Or maybe I’m just retarded.

  26. In one of those quiet towns outside Minneapolis, you’ll find her. She is not a particularly abnormal woman, not even an extraordinary woman. She is a shut in and a loner, pathetic and growing a little fatter each day In fact, the only remarkable thing about this wretched bitch is her destiny and in that, she burns brightly.

Her television is modified easily enough. It can instruct her now. Subtly at first but more forcefully with time, one finds she heeds it guidance. Its easy to imagine how someone so poorly influenced would make decisions that leave her poor and desperate. Her television tells her of a contest which is now her last chance at continuing to own her house. She is told to go to a specific address where a camera is already in place. All she’d have to do is get there before anyone else does, start the video, turn on the oven and get in. She’s told that operators will come to her, take her from the oven, lavish her with praise and send her home with the kind of prize money that’d actually have her coming out of the house once in a while.

It might be hard to envision a woman doing something so self-detrimental, even one as stupid and lazy as her but I’ve not articulated all the work I’ve done here. Her food. Her water. Her mail. She’s been wired so meticulously that she has no choice but to run right to her car, drive to the address she saw on the TV and get in that oven like a

She waits. It begins to get uncomfortable. It is an electric oven. After several minutes, she believes that perhaps part of this is about endurance and that to win she must put up with some pain. She rationalizes that television companies don’t want to get sued so any pain she might feel must be a simulation. At around the eight or nine minute mark, she realizes she is indeed in danger of death and attempts to free herself. Violently, she shakes around and finds she’s locked herself in. Her fat flesh is beginning to carbonize in the four-hundred and fifty degree heat of the oven. Her heart stops and black smoke rises into the kitchen.

There’s some waiting to be done. This could all end poorly for someone who doesn’t wait for the camera to stop on its own when the battery runs out. After about forty-five minutes, a well-done waste of life is ready to be pulled from the oven. I think you would agree that there is nothing quite as delicious as the uterus of a cooked-alive woman. Though it’s easy and I make short work of it, there’s something intimate to her disposal. You know she’s awful and boring but after spending so much time with her, it’s hard to see it all end. I toss the video tape down the farm’s well.

You can’t return to a place where you’ve done something like this. After I clean up, the only thing left to do is untie the woman who owned the farm house and get her in the oven.

  27. yeah i agree with ryuk (13) maybe the woman in the tape got in the oven, closed the door and got out again, then deleted part of the video when she got out and put the 1st woman in the oven, then she continues the video and let the 1st woman in the video fry! it is murder & deaths category after all ^^

  28. Wow this scared me horribly.
First of all, I live in a small town near Minneapolis. Not sure if this is the same one, probably not, but…yeah. Really scary because of that.

I liked it though =] Gave me chills <3

  29. I don’t know if it would be murder. The only way I could conceive someone being forced to kill themself like that is if the life of a loved one was being threatened.

  30. I like the theories more than the actual story
though the actual story isn’t at all bad…
i think it was a murder…perhaps the 2nd woman was insane and made it as if the 1st woman was committing suicide on the tape [n e 1 seen the life of david gayle? u’ll get what i’m on about]
then since she fulfilled her idk, revenge or whatever she chucked the body, threw out the tape and hopped into the oven.

the way it apparently killed them makes it seem more like a furnace
    hah!

  31. GOD the first creepypasta I ever heard…Creeped me out then, creeps me out now. It’s just perfect…

Ambiguous, but not so much that it completely leaves the story without meaning…and yet some of the sickest shit I’ve read.

    Well done, internet…

  32. The amount of heat needed to reduce a human body to ash is quite extreme (750-1000 degrees C.) An ordinary oven (even one big enough for a human to scooch up inside of) would not be able to generate this heat. When the first body is discovered the entire skeleton would probably be intact which would give any coroner more than enough information to determine the age, sex, ethnicity, size, weight… hell, even if they walked with a limp. Basically, they’d be able to determine that the stature of woman 1 was not the same as that of woman 2.

I like Ryuk’s idea that it’s a murder but the idea of not one but two woman commiting suicide in such a horrific fashion is pretty creepy.

  33. Should’ve said the hair color was different or she had on jewelery at beginning of story to set up the fact she was missing it in the video or whatever.

  34. she probably was a murder and faked her death and in stead of her dying it was another person that was killed so the cops would think she died and thats just my opinion
if u have anyother opinions just tell me

  35. ususally human bones dont fry, the skin and muscle around it burns but bones dont.
and one woman could have had a very narrow shoulder line and one woman couldve been very wide, or pelvis bones. or like the anonymous person above said, it coulve been refering to the way she was positioned in the oven

  36. The stature part of it (as I always pictured it) probably had to do more with how the woman was _positioned_ in the oven, not her size.

Obviously, they were both fried. One would still be able to tell, though, based on the amount of ashes left behind or (if the ashes left behind a human-looking charred corpse) which direction she was facing. If it differs from how the woman on the film got into the oven, then her “stature” is different, and thus, a different person.

Very creepy story. One of my first read. A+

  37. Must be a pretty big oven or a pretty small women to fit. The stature part is nonsense, of course the women isn’t the size of the original, she got fried. Sometime like dental records would be more appropriate.

  38. Fuck. (If you’ll please excuse my language)

I see the use of human flesh; various organs are sold on the black market for reasons that vary from out-of-hospital transplants to the most decidedly perverse, deranged, things one could think of (use your imagination).

  39. 4>> it is scary, it implies that a second woman found the tape and the cooked woman, and somehow the body and the tape were disposed of, and then second woman got cooked too, presumably by being driven insane from what she saw on the tape. Crazy people are scary, crazy enough to want to die are just that much scarier.

  40. I don’t get why the details of the tape are scary. Easy explanation: Lady 1 cooks herself. Later, lady 2 disposes of lady 1’s body, chucks the tape in the well, then also cooks herself.

    1. Teh Moosen is NEAR

How exactly do you know that there weren’t more people involved in this? There could have been a lady 3 who disposed of lady 2 and crawled in? How do you even know that the lady found in the oven actually was cooked in that same place??? It could have been lady 1 setting up the camera, supposedly getting inside of the oven while it was on, getting back out, charring another body, then placing it in her place?? What if she was a criminal that faked her death to get the police to stop chasing her???????? Answer me this: unless it was you who wrote the story, do not explain it to other people like that because you do not know what happened, exactly. Tell me.

  41. See, this is one of the first ones I’ve ever read, and its held the bar ever since.

I think it would make for an amazing short film.
