The Red Wristband

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

When you are admitted to a hospital, they place on your wrist a white wristband with your name on it. But there are other different colored wristbands which symbolizes other things. The red wristbands are placed on dead people.

There was one surgeon who worked on night shift in a school hospital. He had just finished an operation and was on his way down to the basement. He entered the elevator and there was just one other person there. He casually chatted with the woman while the elevator descended. When the elevator door opened another woman was about to enter when the doctor slammed the close button and punched the button to the highest floor. Surprised, the woman reprimanded the doctor for being rude and asked why he did not let the other woman in.

The doctor said “that was the woman i just operated on. She died while I was doing the operation. Didn’t you see the red wristband she was wearing?”

The woman smiled and raised her arm “something like this?”

  1. At the hospital I work at white is your ID band, red is allergy list, orange is code status, yellow is fall risk and green is your type and screen bracelet for if you need blood.

its good but there were a few mistakes and whats with the ending. but i loved the idea and the main plot of the story!

  3. It may not be accurate, but I love this one. Then again, I’ve always been a humorist, so I’m probably biased, but I think that this was well done.

  4. “He casually chatted with the woman while the elevator descended. When the elevator door opened another woman was about to enter”

So, I’m guessing the woman who died on his operating table took the stairs or another elevator to a lower level before trying to get in the elevator he was in?

Is it normal for surgeons to head on down to the hospital basement after surgery?

  5. I got a red wrist band…it’s for patients that have an allergy to certain meds/materials.
    Or maybe I’m dead…can a ghost comment?

  6. That was a delicious pasta! I will share with friends next time. At the end I was like “OHHHH SHIIIT DOOD”. Really spooked me! But then I read the comments and had to keep myself from laughing so as to not wake the boyfriend rofl.. I love this community (ie: “christmas hulk”)

  7. actually my dad works at a hospital and THERE it means ‘this patient has a ______ allergy’…. can’t remember what the blank was though

I’m actually a zombie. I overdosed and was legally dead for two minutes and then for some reason I just came back. Being a zombie is not as fun as it sounds. Plus when the doctors find out that you died they try to keep you in check and pump all different sorts of meds in you to keep you some what alive.
For me most of the time I’m freezing. Doesn’t matter what tempature it really is. Most zomibes are depressed and worry a lot. It’s part of the anxiety. We undead have lots of issues I’d rather not get into right now.
But if you are undead and would like to talk then come to me. I’m always up, always around, and I’m just waiting to meet you.

  9. In the hospital this weekend. Have an allergy to some obscure medication, apparently. Gave me a red allergy wristband. Could not get this story out of my head v___v

  10. Hoody and I have a whole collection of red wristbands those who want to see it must pledge their allegance to slendy

  11. Back in my country its black wristband for the deceased. Red is for people who don’t practice safe sex IYKWIM.

  12. ….they don’t put wristbands on dead people, they put toe-tags…. because they keep them in refrigerated cupboard things until the morgue picks them up. And they take them out feet-first, so they need to identify them with toe-tags, not pull them all the way out to get to their wrist.

    just common sense, kicking in.

  13. I’m in the hospital right now, two days post-op, and I’m seriously thinking about using my red bracelet (at Shands it means ‘potentially fatal allergies’) to see if anyone else spends their recovery time reading creepypasta.

  14. Oh geeze, he’s stuck in the elevator with that zombie wench until the top floor. A real cliff hanger. Leaves the end to the imagination.
10/10. would eat again, and order delivery. Would also freeze, and reheat for my girlfriend on our third date in my apartment, where we’d watch episodes of friends and make passionate love on a bed of roses.

  15. I received a red wristband once when i got an appendectemy. it symbolized that i was allergic to nothing

  16. most places in the u.s. give you a red wirst band if you have and kind of allergy to a medication so i always get one the one’s for being dead are put on a differrent linb and are more orange then red but could be considered red i guess

  17. when i was scrolling down, i only scrolled until just BEFORE the last line. when i noticed (and read) the last line, a brick was shat.

  18. Oh, also, I looked it up and red doesn’t mean dead.

The color coding goes as follows:
    Do Not Resuscitate: Purple
    Allergies: Red
    Fall Risk: Yellow
    Latex Allergy: Green
    Restricted Extremity: Pink

So, that just blew away the whole “creepy” factor for me.

  19. And now you know why I never leave the house without some sort of weapon on me. Damn zombies can show up any time, anyplace. Nah, j/k.

But srsly, the color of wristband you get depends on the hospital you go to, how critical your condition is, and what you want the docs to do if your heart stops, or you stop breathing. Where my mom works, blue means “Just let me die.” Red means “Do whatever you freaking can, and if it doesn’t work after 20 minutes, call the morgue.” the rest I can’t remember, but every time I’m admitted I get a red one.

  20. … meh, I refuse to be scared by this one. It is possible that the woman in the elevator will now attack the doctor, but here is my reasoning why she won’t:

1.) They were talking. Obviously, whatever she is, she has higher brain functions and is not just a rabid zombie out for brains.
2.) Leaving the possibility she would attack him as soon as he found her out. He didn’t: She had to show him her wristband.

3.) Ohcrap. If he explained to her that he knows the one woman was dead, he might Know Too Much, and the other woman might attack him. On the other hand, why would she show him the wristband and not just jump him?

  21. Lol @ Russell.
Lol the end is hilarious, if i was the dead girl he slammed the elevator door shut too i’d feel pretty damn angry. i hope the dead girls sister in the elavator its him.

  22. …and then her teeth rot out, her eyes begin to glow red and her skin goes all scaly.
Then she screams ‘ WHY THE HELL DIDN’T YOU LET MY SISTER IN?’

  23. Creepy stuff, when I visit the hospitalI always get a blue wristband. =(

And why the fuck was a dead woman doing in the elevator anyways? GO MAKE ME A SAMMICH DEADWOMAN!

  24. LOL @39

    “whatcha doin?”
“oh you know, just looking at some CP. I love CP! It’s my favorite thing to do, look at CP. it gives me tingles all over!”

  25. ok… the color is coded… red is for dead people BUT is also used for people which are prone to injure… or allergic, blue is hyper tension and does not need to be checked often, green is for patients just passing by… and yellow.. hope noon of you get a yellow-gold… does are for terminal pationts…. sorry for the spelling 9 inch laptops arent very confortable…

  26. @12

Sweet. I want to break into a hospital and steal a red wristband now, because then I can prank people like that. :D

    @34

    Sexy how? O_o

  27. MooMoon – so basically, you signed your own death sentence?

I’ve been wanting to do that for years…
    Nice one, high five!

  28. “foolish” I totaly agree, he will be wailing on all the paranormal. AND I’LL BE THERE TO BACK HIM UP!!! *grabs bat* A cross and bible might work better, but they’re not as fun ^_^

  29. Oh boy that was scary. And Sigma, it means you need to get your brain checked ‘cuz you got mental issues. Or you got a good story for CP (CreepyPasta)

  30. I get a red and black wristband that absorbs the light around it and emits a faint wailing sound. What does that mean?

  31. Russell will perpetually be kicking the asses of anything and everything paranormal.

On another note, this one made me laugh. Kind of like an awkward “…” moment afterwards.

  32. John Alexander Crowe

dang it russell you get your ass back here and leave those ghouls and ghosts alone alreadly

  33. This is more of a happy pasta than a creepy one. As long as the doctor doesn’t make an ass of himself by freaking out, he’ll have probably made a lifelong friend of a friendly, articulate dead person who could probably teach him how to cheat death in the same manner.

    1. Or he could make sweet passionate love to her, and ignore the nagging question of whether or not doing such a thing with an undead person is necrophilia.

  34. No, green means your the hulk. And any moment you’ll explode into a huge super hero, who for some reason manages to keep his pants on.

  35. And then he realized he has been using the wrong wristbands all along, not before killing that women thinking she’s a zombie.

  36. When i end up in the hospital, for any reason and have to be admitted, i always receive a red wrist band.
