The Hidden Bride

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

During a wedding reception of a young couple the guests decided on a drunken game of hide and seek. It was decided that the groom was “it” and he eventually found everyone but his new bride. Eventually the man became furious and decided it wasn’t funny anymore and left her there. As weeks went by he accepted that she’d had second thoughts and went on with her life so he did the same. A few years later a cleaning lady dusted off an old trunk in the attic of the building where the reception had taken place, out of curiosity she opened it. Inside the trunk was the rotted body of the missing bride who’d apparently became locked in the trunk she’d hid in. Whether she’d suffocated or starved was unknown, but her face was frozen in a scream.

  1. I’ve read this in a book of scary stories, only difference was that it was written correctly and instead of the scream and the maid, her extremely aged husband found her.

  2. Really? Iv’e seen pretty scary ones but that’s kinda cheesy. And the wife was pretty stupid for hiding in the trunk. I mean… who has a trunk that could fit a living human???????
Well, unless it’s a car trunk

  3. OK, come on. sad but not scary. Idiotic wife! HIDING in a CHEST! Bound to happen. And what kind of liquor did they drink if they are doing this?

  4. Katie Mitchell

This reminds me of the movie Urban Ledgends: Bloody Mary, where they finally find the body of Mary in a trunk in the school I think….I really loved this one :)

  5. It’s taken from a book of short stories, it’s a series of books I think there are three or four in total and in the original the trunk lid hits her on the head and knocks her out. No screaming involved.

  6. Okay. I’ve heard this one before. It was on a urban legend show where it says if it’s fake or not. I can tell you this, wh oever wrote this didnt make this up. they got it from somewhere

  7. I have read this story in a book, the book told it better, and i sort of expected this story to pop up somewhere in this site. Nice touch with the scream, though. :)

  8. I once read a version where the couple had rings engraved with ‘I will never be far from you, be not far from me’ and the on the wedding day the bride hid for hide and seek and never reappeared. Years passed and the man never left his house or remarried but always wore the ring. When he was very old, he went into the attic and some yellowing lace caught his eye from a trunk and in it he found the skeleton of his wife, still with the engraved ring on her finger. He held her and died there. It’s the sort of story that makes you want to cry because she never was far from him like their engraved rings promised.

  9. Who the hell plays children’s games at their wedding? What’s next? A tragic “Duck, Duck, Goose Accident”? Or may be “Red Light, Green Light Gone Wrong” “Simon Says DIE” or “Tag, You’re Dead”

This wasn’t very good. It sounds far too childish.

  10. They got drunk on THEIR WEDDING, and their idea of “a bit of fun” was playing HIDE AND SEEK?

Are you fucking having me on?

  11. Would have been better if it ended something like: The cause of her death appears to be from the ragged wounds on her throat, as if she had tried to commit suicide by ripping out her throat with her fingernails when she realised that escape was impossible.

Would also allow it to be posted under the Madness catergory XD

  12. poor bride, but dumb husband, so he just comes to the conclusion that shes left him, why the hell marry her then if he thought she was that type of person.

Any man with half a brain would think something was seriously wrong, and why would you play a stupid game like that on your wedding night – when i got married all i was thinking was that i wanted everyone to get lost so my husband and i could go to our hotel and f@#$…..

  13. Oh I remember this one, read it while i was in elementary school. I thought it was good back then, but now it is just old pasta :/

  14. ooh i like it. this is why i never hide myself in things like that because then they lock and a scary monster raeps me. :).

  15. NosferatuDracula

Reminds me of the story “When Darkness Loves Us” by.. I forgot her name… Where the girl checks out an old cave she had played in during her childhood and was accidentally locked up by her own husband.. She escaped twenty years later when the guy had married her younger sister and had children.. Read the story for yourselves.. It was quite…creepy….

  16. I read that in a book once….scared the crap out of me for a good while… especially since my cousin’s wedding was the next week after I read this..my cousin’s wedding was fine and now she has two kids and is living a wonderful life

  17. I’ve heard this one told about an ancestral home in England some time in the 16th century- some book on British folklore mentioned it.

  18. That’s actually a true story. It was at the wedding reception and they were playing hide and seek, the bride went upstairs to her childhood hiding place, but when she closed the trunk, it locked…

  19. I just saw this story today on Mostly True Stories: Urban Legends.

It was debunking it, because the body would start to smell, and people would find it.

…But it still makes for a good creepy pasta!

  20. Oh!

I saw this on…was it called Legend Trippers? I’m sorry, I don’t remember the name of the show; I just remember that I saw it on the Discovery Channel while I was waiting for A Haunting to come on.

Although in that version, I don’t think they found her until it was her sister’s turn to get married.

Anyway, never knew this was a creepypasta as well.

  21. it was in scary stories to tell in the dark…i used to live for those
    esp the illustrator…majorly creepy dude

  22. (insert name here)

yeah, or found her earlier. Aren’t cleaning people suppose to cover the WHOLE house? What took so long?

  23. That is just creepy. (hey! ceeepypasta! =D) But, i don’t know, you’d think they would be able to hear here thumping around in the trunk. Or at least called the cops.

  24. The Tainted Truth

Once read this in a scary story book it’s good to hear it again just not on one of my favorite sites .-. Although it was a whole lot longer in the bok. ‘Yay short versions.’

  25. the only problem ive ever had with the versions of this story is the fact that…wooden trunks arnt soundproof at all. if her face was frozen in a scream why did no one hear.

  26. I remember reading this on /x/. I think it’s rather good, but I agree that overall it’s a bit boring.

  27. i heard read this story in a book. this was was a little different than the one in the book, because the grooms granddaughter found her. nice twist with the scream though.

    1. Muahahaahahahaha! They never new that she was dead! (Obviously i locked the trunk) now for the husband! (Laughs)

No, Killer, your name is only ironic. You couldn’t hurt a fly. And by hurt a fly, I mean kill a person.
