Some Things Should Just Be

Estimated reading time — 2 minutes

It was an atrocious act, but it worked. And just like everything else in this world, there was a consequence. This act worked, but not in the way that they wanted it to. They did not take any physical forms. They could talk, but would not be heard. They could touch, but could not be felt. They can see but cannot be seen, even if they were right in front of us.

Many visited loved ones. But due to the consequences, they were ignored. Many have gone mad, some fell into depression, and some tried to commit suicide. But you can not kill something that is already dead. Now they walk our world. Walking forever in a world of no communication.

At first, no one saw them. Ignored by the world they used to live in. But just like animals, humans adapted to their world through evolution. Soon, we started noticing them. We’d say it was just nothing. Thinking it was just our imagination. Generations passed and we progressed, subconsciously developing our skills to see them. And they have noticed. They’ve started doing what they can to catch our attention. Giving us chills, whispering something in our ears, in hopes that we at least acknowledge them.

Soon, we have come to call them “Ghosts”. Most feared them, some were fascinated, and few were willing to make contact. The ones who were willing were gifted at birth, as if destiny knew that they would communicate. We gave them the name “Mediums”.

They communicated with the dead, but it has been hundreds of years since they first appeared. Only a few were so willing to communicate peacefully.

Don’t forget, they were humans once, too. And just like us, they have adapted and evolved.

  1. Uhm… so what? Feels like an enciclopedya entry, just not with enough explanations. Where is the story?
By the way, evolution of the humankind actually moved us away from ghosts and such things, people in the past were more apt to believe in ghosts, magic and so forth, and probably get in touch with them, or believe they did.

  2. I actually take this a bit offensively, considering I am a medium. Good pasta I guess, but the author needs to think that he/she might be offending people with pastas kike this one.

    1. So how exactly did I offend people with this? All I’ve basically said about mediums is that they communicate with the dead.

  3. @ pyro: I’m sensing that, um, hmm, you’ll be a ghost after the apocalypse.

@ Ismael: The idea that post-living beings walking the earth can somehow evolve is lost on me. Sorry. Keep writing though.

  4. Hey! It’s the author of this.

It’s my first time writing a pasta, and I’m not sure if I just didn’t do a good enough job of telling the story. It’s supposed to be like the evolution of the living and the dead.

The living are evolving in such a way that we start noticing the dead and have found ways to communicate with them. As for the dead, in the end, I state that they also changed and evolved. I’m sure you guys know that there are different types of ghosts and hauntings, which is what the dead are evolving to, and basically changing for the worse, which then ties in to the title of this pasta.

And as for the beginning, I left it up to people’s imagination to make a conclusion as to what the dead did that was so atrocious to have them walk with the living again.

I would love some suggestions though! Let me know what I did poorly on. Any help or constructive criticism is well appreciated!

  5. Pyro, the story didn’t even say that. It said most humans fear ghosts, some humans are fascinated and still other humans, called mediums, have the gift of communication.

  6. not really creepy I don’t really understand where you were going with this story maybe I missed the point I don’t know.

  7. Finally, it’s nice to finally read a pasta about things that I actually give a damn about. I’m sick of religious stuff moaning about the apocalypse.

So mediums are supposed to not be human? *Raises an eyebrow*
Considering my mum is close with someone who’s had the gift and i used to know a medium who’s told me things that’ve turned out to be true and have happened then i’m guessing they’re friendly in-human entities. I wont stop been fascinated by any of it.

Totally wasn’t in the slightest bit scary, I miss the creepy stuff that the site used to put up. =[

    1. It doesn’t say they aren’t human. Judging by the context, I would assume that they are saying that Mediums are gifted humans with the ability to communicate with the other side. If you’re talking about the last sentence, I’m pretty sure that’s talking about these “ghosts”.
