September Discussion Post: Your Favorite Creepypasta

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

The topic for this month’s discussion post may seem a bit obvious, but I really am curious. It’s always very interesting to me to see how each new pasta is received; sometimes you guys end up totally hating one that I thought would get positive reviews, and sometimes I find ones that I’m not personally that impressed by have somehow captivated the whole internet and become a phenomenon (I’m looking at you, Jeff). I guess it does drive home the whole “enjoyment of writing is subjective” thing, to a point.

So please, tell me about your favorite Creepypasta of all time and why you love it so much. It doesn’t even have to be one posted on the site, but if it’s not here, please include a link where everyone can read it. Share with the class, kids!

  1. I like a few. I like my dog was missing for 3 days. Which was creepy. Laughing jack, lazari. But most of all smiledog.

  2. Hum. I would have to say one of these three. Laughing jack, lazari or smile dog. I love smile dog all around. same with lazari. bit I fell bad for jack. He had a freand that forgot about him and changed him into a killer.

  3. I like the creepypasta Jade Aarons: Another Proxy, it’s on WattPad, Forester01 wrote it, it’s not very popular, call me crazy, but I simply love it.

  4. defenlty russian sleeping experiment without a doubt, very origional, and the ending was so fucking creepy – not to say the rest wasnt, i was trying to imagine it in my head as i read it, and the idea of the ‘test subjects’ with no meat in their bodies, just organs and bones, i couldnt imagine

  5. I would have to say chanting in the woods mostly for the reason that it reminds me of being a kid and I have a hobby of studying cults.

  6. Morgoht's pastas

My favorite beyond a doubt is Jeff the killer. If I had to choose just one of his stories, it would have to be Jeff the killer vs. Jane the killer!! I heard he made some deal with a demon, can someone tell me this creepypatsa’s title? I though mrcreepypasta had read it but apparently not lol.

  7. It’s tough to pick a favorite, but I would have to go with Pokemon Strangled Red, just because I am a fan of the 1st gen Pokemon games so the fact that I play Pokemon Red makes it more creepy

  8. I’ve only listened to three creepypasta stories and, though all were pretty impressing, the one I keep coming back to is Laughing Jack. :)

  9. Just read psychosis, definitely became one of my favorites . Unlike most creepypasta’s this one dragged me into the story like i was the main character. Very well written.

  10. I personnally LOVE Jeff the Killer. Its well written and will give just about anyone shivers. remember i said JUST ABOUT, not everyone some people just dont get scared. But it will forever be my favorite.

  11. Candle Cove has to be my favorite. It’s one of the first ones I read that really hit me. After the whole story of a VERY creepy show, that final line came totally out of nowhere and just hit me like a punch to the face. That’s what I like in a horror story; a real powerful ending.

  12. If I were to make a top 5 of my favorite creepypastas, I think they would be:
    1. Russian Sleep Experiment
    2. Psychosis
    3. Mentality
    4. The Pocket
    5. Eyeless Jack

  13. I love penpal by 1000vultures I never got so attached to a story and the way it ended made me feel so empty if you haven’t read it or heard it its on mycreepypastas YouTube channel I recommend it to the fullest

  14. When I was thirteen I read my first ever Creepypasta, which just so happened to be Squidward’s Suicide. And it scared the fuck out of me. Later favourites had to be Jeff, BEN, the Russian Sleep Experimene and the Lavender Town Suicides. Nowadays it’s definitely Autopilot and Holes which are technically considered Nosleeps, but still. I’m a sucker for Portraits as well. In the end I really love short ones that can terrify you.

  15. My fav by far has to be addison and aden aka addi and aden ‘the orphan twins’ i can’t really explain why and it ticks me off to no end cause no one EVER fricking knows who they are

  16. So we are all familiar with Psychosis (obviously) because it is an amazing piece of literature. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on other works that author has written. I can not seem to find a blog or website linked to the author given on the creepypasta post. Thanks! (:

  17. Honestly my favorite would have to be Addi and Aden aka the orphan twins . It isn’t as bone chilling and mind melting as some but i think it is well writen and thought out .It dose have a creepy or chilling factor to it though . i recommend it for fans of jeff the killer , slenderman , ben drowned, etc

  18. The best one I’ve read was The Vigil, in my opinion. The day I read it, I swear I couldn’t sleep. What got me in that story was the line (non-verbatim) “It’s not sleeping I’m afraid of, it’s waking up.” Just the thought of waking up to something waiting for you that would soon be the one to take your life just gives me the chills. I’ll never forget about that pasta.

  19. This may sound stupid and otaku-ish, but my favorite was Hetalia Episode 23.5.
I read it thinking it would be stupid and Fanfiction-y but I ended upon crying my eyes out and having my mom laughing at my hysterics. It got me right in the feels. Right in then goddamn feels.

  20. Do you like Nightmares

NormalPornForNormalPeople Dating Game Funnymouth and Candle Cove are the best pastas i know go check them out.

  21. My favorites are more of the realistic pastas, such as,
    BEN
    Strangled Red
    Imaginary friend

These all will frighten you because they are logical and you can easly connect to the story lines.

  22. In need of help!

I LOVE Psychosis. But my favorite I sadly can’t remember the name and was hoping someone here could help me. Here’s what I remember:

Its a journal type pasta. Its a guy talking about some thing in his house thats watching him and it follows him throughout the house. At the very end it turns out the monster feeds off fear so the guy hugs it and it harms it. Eventually though he ends up being turned into on of them. The very end is him in his first time stalking someone and how he loves the smell of fear.

    Thanks for any help!

  23. I got to say my top two favorites have got to be, BEN and Strangled Red. There both belivable storys and I enjoy the thought that they have enough logical facts and prof to be possible in real life.
BEN made me super scared but lucky me I fell in love with him so he dosent seem to bother me any more. But thanks to him I no longer go on cleverbot….. XD.
Strangled Red, I liked alot because, I can see a hacked game like that being real and,the story showed how a person can change so much in just an instant. Its kind of frigting really but I enjoyed how instead of making him go insain they made him keep his sanity and just snap.
I also enjoy Masky but sadly I never read his story all I know about him is hes a creepy dude in a masky who beats people up.
Those are my favorite pastas, as you can tell I think more logicaly when it comes to these storys.

  24. My three all-time favorites are:

    1. NoEnd House. Reading this for the first time, and seeing the (absolutely completely totally not expected) ending was just amazing. It’s long and by far worth the read.

    2. Tulpa. I have to say that I’ve never read it, only listened to it. Amazing pasta imo!

    3. Russian Sleep Experiment. Reading this at the age of 13 kept me awake at nights for days after. No wonder….. *shivers*

If I have to name a pasta that just sends massive chills down your spine with the last sentence, it has to be either Portraits or White With Red. Love pastas like that.

  25. Mr Widemouth, Dear Abby, Tulpa, Russian sleep experiment, and for some reason the Expressionless creeped me out too. Although the whole ” I am god” thing has became quite cliche now

  26. super natral 101

My favorite creepy pasta story is button day.It is just amazing and scary. And it would make a good novel, or movie.

  27. Squidwards suicide, jeff, slender, sm ile.jpg, the smile dog, and the rake wrre my favorites at first. those were the stories that inspired me to write “succession of nightmares.” but now ill say my favorite is abandoned by disney. I really enjoy that one.

  28. SLENY!!!!! Hes the best! I learned about him 1st! Then jeff! Then jane!(shes not really my favorite) then smile dog! Then scp!(im not really sure if hes a pasta) then BEN! then eyeless jack! then BOB! Then russian sleep experiment! (Wich was AWESOME btw) then everything else!… Im gunna look up sallie right now cuz i dont know who she iz yet! =3

  29. My favorites are Curfew, Mr. Widemouth, You’re Not Scare, Right?, Halloween, Lightless City, The Midnight Game, A Game of Flashlight Tag, A Knock on the Window, White With Red, NoEnd House, Tug Tug Tug, Thumps, The Basement, The Never Ending Road, and A Mother’s Love.

My least favorites ones are Candle Cove, Squidward’s Suicide, any of the Pokemon pastas, Jeff the Killer, and Slenderman. I mean, Candle Cove in my opinion is boring and not scary at all. Slenderman is has been talked about too much. Jeff the Killer is not scary and is too far fetched.

When I hear a creepy pasta or any scary story, I want it to make me too scared to look behind me after I’m done listening to it. I want it to make me too afraid to walk through my dark house at night. I want a creepy pasta to chill me.

  30. My favorites are the stories of ‘Jeff the killer’ and ‘Slenderman’. But somehow I actually feel that the stories here are sometimes just trying to scare an ignorant bunny…

  31. something original

look I know that it is December but how could you forget about warning? it is far one of the more original works here instead of Slender man and Jeff the killer ripoff.

  32. Now I know it’s childish, but i’ve played the game and this was a shocker for me. My favorite creepy pasta is lost soul silver.

  33. Can someone ID this story? I remember reading one in which the narrator was the antagonist, and it said that it was always there. It was waiting to kill you (the reader); anything unknown, such as a shadow or silhouette at night, was the being. It also said to forget about it, and to not question it.

It has been killing me that I can’t remember the name.
    Cheers,
    Pbninja

  34. my favorite of all time is Jeff the killer, old news right?
but his psychological problems make and interesting topic among my creepypasta friends, we have a tendency to over analyze pasta stories. and in Jeff’s case we find that he may not even be actually at fault for kills, but a demon possession may be at fault. but there have been cases of his scale of excessive hysteria, and his mind set of “killing to save you.” so i cant honestly set my opinion firm on what his actual “problem” was.

  35. The story that probably freaked me out the most is not one that has been said on here much.
Smile dog. That story is pretty well written, but overall the CONCEPT of it is, I believe, truely chilling. Because, in all honesty, what one of us would NOT share something twisted to save ourselves from a manic downward spiral of depression?
The Art of Jacob Emory (Think I got that right, too lazy to look) was also a supurb read. Very well written, and just a fun ride all together,
Psychosis was the first read I was actually impressed with here.

And I cant believe that nobody has mentioned Necropotence!!!
That story is Grade A awesome.

  36. Jeff is overrated as hell….mediocre creepypasta.
My favorites are russian, candle cove, noend house, psychosis, the strangers, the song and dance man, sisters sinister shower among others.

  37. Seriously, how can anyone like Jeff the Killer? Like, really. How. Have you all never read a book in your life, so you have no concept of what a good story actually is? Someone explain this to me.

Anyway, all my favorites have been mentioned, Russian Sleep Experiment, Psychosis, and Candle Cove. I don’t think anyone has mentioned Normal Porn For Normal People yet, i like that one as well. Was recently horrified to have an actual website by that name come up on a Google search, didn’t have the balls to actually click on it.

  38. @ Anonymous (If that’s your REAL name… hehe)

Well thanks a lot for the mention. It was a very nice surprise to see on a site completely unrelated to my stories. If you google Serpent-Man, it takes you to my Wattpad page which has most of my TGSFATW stories, and then a few others, in a collection titled “Campfire Tales” (original, I know). And don’t worry, no offense – as you said, just about every story loses at least a bit of its punch after the first read. Hey – thanks for the nice surprise!

And sorry everyone else! I don’t mean to hijack the comments section or spam! Great site here. Hopefully you can check out some of my stories here soon! =]

  39. @ Beezer

I’m the one who mentioned it. It’s probably my favorite even though I listed it second. It’s always the first to come to mind.
No offense saying it doesn’t scare me the same anymore. That just goes for any story. But I have scared my boyfriend and his sister with it too.
By the way, I did originally see it on the “TGSFATW” (trying not to advertise) app. I’ve favorited multiple stories of yours on there. I think Vengeance of a Stormy Past was one of the first I ever read and it creeped me out extra because the house has the same layout as mine.

  40. I am new to creepy pasta – I’ve heard of it several times, but never really checked it out. I’m not sure why – it is right up my alley, and now that I’m here, I love it. However, imagine my surprise when the very first thread I read has one of my own stories mentioned in the comments section! “The Serpent-Man of White Hollow Road” is my story, that I wrote for a particular iPhone app, and that is also available on Wattpad – but it’s not in here – yet, anyway. This isn’t some kind of self-promotion, FYI – just genuine surprise at the mention of my story which isn’t even on this site.

  41. The scariest I think by far are: Psychosis. Squidward’s Suicide. And the one about the experiments done during WWII or something where soldiers are sleep deprived and go crazy and like kill themselves. What is that one called?

  42. oooooh yeah macho myaaan

I think my favorite was “The song and dance man”. I’m new to creepypasta, but it was really the first one that I read that I could just… see the story in my head. It was definitely well written and descriptive

  43. Ano freakin onimous

i like that new that got posted “karma” it’s surprising and pretty creepy. very tasty pasta I recommend it.

  44. I rather enjoyed READ. But the only monster in my house is me, and if I’m going to kill myself, I’ll do it in my own way and time.

  45. 0: “THE DAY OF ALL BLOOD”
I lost it at “Bittened” XD

    1: “The Aforementioned”

Unfortunately, I cannot post links; as I AM PHONE.

Makes you tense, then relaxes you, thinking “wow this got really stupid”, then makes you shit. You will probably have to read some of it over again, as it is a tad confusing, but if you figure it out it makes you feel awesome for some reason.

    2: “Psychosis”

The whole pasta is pure genius, and the ending is pants-jizzingly good.

    3: “NoEnd House”

First pasta Ive ever read, and most likely the scariest.

  46. My favorite of all time would have to be Jeff the killer.
Ever since I have heard of Jeff, he has been my top favorite. He is just so friggin insane and so smart… he knows how to get away with anything. He knows the best ways to escape getting caught and he always finishes the job…
But yeah, Jeff the Killer is my favorite, hands down.
    ~Team Jeff Forever! :D

    1. *eye twitch* *mouth foam* I dont care what any of you say about Jeff. It is my new eternal duty to hunt him like the sick monster he is. And if I meet Jane on the way, we can share the final killing blow to that sadistic mother fucker. *hysterical laughter*

  47. I just got done reading Majora’s Masks CP on BEN, and dear GOD did I wanna stay stuck in my bed with the lights on. Its seemed SO believable, its pretty good! I love the Lavender town Syndrom too, but I’ve been recomended to read CP on the WWII germany thing… ;u; but the stories on here are amazing.

  48. My favorites include
    The Grocery List(classic)
    Cupcakes(Guilty pleasure. But yeah, yuck)
And a few I don’t remember the names of..
The one about the screaming phone message.
The “Please return the mirrors, we miss watching you sleep at night.” one.
And the one about the girl who comes home and calls to her mom and hears a voice say “Yeeeesss”. She repeats this three times until her mom comes home and she goes upstairs to take a peak, and of course it’s a “Pale” face staring at her.
Not a big fan of Jeff or Candle Cove. I don’t really like lost episode of game pasta sorry -_-

  49. I LOVE the BEN Drowned pasta. I know it’s overrated, but it’s SO well done. I think i like Sonic.exe after that. It seems so REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  50. My favourite creepypasta is called footprints.every night I lock all the doors in my house so no one can get in and spy on me while I’m sleeping.

  51. The Hole in the Wall, by Josef K.

Most creepy pasta takes place in the forest, or an abandoned building, or in an evil cave, or just in a generally dark place. All so cliche!

The Hole in the Wall is one of the very few stories that brings creepy pasta HOME, literally. Lets face it: Most of us probably live in an apartment currently, or have at some point in our life, and this story takes that normally safe and reliable place, but turns it into the place where the bad stuff is going down for a change of pace. It is a very realistic tale that could easily happen to any of us.

  52. I really don’t understand why people like Jeff the Killer. It spawned a decently creepy image, but the story itself is so garbled and trite it ruins any tension for me. Is JtK some kind of in-joke that I’m missing out on?

    1. he has excessive hysteria, its not a joke, there are actual cases of this. however many people dont like him for whatever reason, but the truth is, because so many people get the idea hes real… its began to manifest itself into an actual thing. ill have more about wtf im talking about in a few days on my new website i will be setting up later

  53. I couldn’t think of one, so here’s my top ten. (in no specific order)
    Jeff The Killer
    String Theory
    The Rake
The one in the hotel and the red eyes (forgot name. feedbeck would be helpful)
    Candle Cove
    Ben.Drowned
    Lost Silver
    Russian Sleep Experiment
    Smile.jpg
    Lavender Town Syndrome

  54. I’d have to say that my favorite by far has to be “The Art of Jacob Emory”. The story is something that haunts you every day when you see something moving in the corner of your eye. And sure enough every time i see something i secretly wonder if its one of the fine creations on Jacob Emory :)

  55. How is everyone forgetting about Jeff the killer? The idea of him becoming the very thing that almost killed him, and the fact that he went so far into it that he murdered his own family, just tops it all off for me.

  56. I love “The Rake” because it was one of the first stories my uncle, who is two years older than me, showed me at night while I was staying over at his place before I went to basic training for the Army. I began listening to creepypasta rather than reading it. My uncle introduced me to creepypasta through a youtube user named Mr.CreepyPasta. I fell in love with the stories, and I love to read so I decided to visit the origin of Mr.CreepyPasta’s videos…and the stories led to this site. I love LOVE LOVE the “PEN-PALS” stories…Ugh, so good. not on this site, but is a creepypasta I believe. :] A well cooked one. I have yet to write my first real scary one, but the actual subject that I want to write it on is a little too dear to me; so I am a bit nervous to write about it. When I write about it, it sets me in the same mindframe that I had when I was the age that it happened at. So I’ll wait a little…and write it later on. When I get situated over here.

  57. Definitely Psychosis.
I had to read it in parts over the course of several days and that helped pull me in and gave off a creepiness to it. I remember it well in my mind and I have loved it ever since finishing it. I even squee at the mention of it.

  58. I can’t remeber the names of these two but they are a couple of my top favorites. If someone reconizes them and knows the name please let me know i would like to read them again.

    *****SPOILER ALERT*****
*Discription may and most likely will include the ending and possible ruin the story.

    First Tale –

A man gets on a bus, after a day of work, to head home. The bus was crowded but he finds a seat at the back of the bus in front of two kids. Both of whom are regulars and have seen them plenty of times. Taking a quick nap he awakes to find a nearly empty bus and the rest of the people cleared out within the next few stops. It was just him and the kid behind him, they were entertaining themselves with ghost stories.

There is apparently some sort specter that will only take you if you turn around and look at it. The kid went on ” and it will try everything it can to try to make you turn and look into its eyes. It would call your name or tap you on your shoulder and once you turn and look into its eyes, right infront of your face, staring at you. It takes you.”

‘Thank god I’m almost home I can’t wait to get home have a cup of tea and pass out on my bed’ the man thinks to himslef.
The kids get off before him and then it’s his stop. The bus slow down, almost to a complete stop, and then picks up speed heading towards my block. The kids still immense in telling each other ghost stories didn’t even realize they missed there stop. The man turns to tell them they missed there stop and staring at him are two bloodshot owl-like eyes.

“I told you not to turn around.”

    Second Tale –

This poor homeless man signs up for an experiment that cuts him off from all 5 senses to see what would happen. After a few days the man kills himself and wrote somehow “God has abanded us”

    1. OH OH I KNOW THE SECOND ONE IF YOU HAVEN’T FIGURED IT OUT ALREADY. It’s one of my favourites, “Gateway Into the Mind”.

  59. Candle Cove for sure. It’s very hard for me to be scared by fiction, and while I didn’t have the kind of fear that had me peeking behind curtains for boogeymen, it definitely creeped me the hell out. I like that while the whole thing gives you the shivers, the last line really clinches it.

  60. Trying to spoil as little as possible, my favorite creepypasta is, “The Masked Man.” All of the relevant details are there, just enough to create that spooky atmosphere, while maintaining enough suspense to keep you anxious throughout most of the story. Of course, the twist at the end was brilliant as well.

  61. Psychosis is definitely my favorite. Psychosis really just created that atmosphere of paranoia we all come here for the best of any creepypasta I’ve ever read.

  62. I personally love WITNESS. It’s got an urban legend feel, which I’m incredibly fond of, and the fact that the entity relies on the primal fear of humans to pass on the story and, in that way, accidentally surrender themselves to it is an awesome twist to me. First read it years ago, but it still makes me worry about hearing knocking in the night when I revisit it.

  63. For me, its a toss up between two stories that have completely different types of narration but a common theme; art.

First there’s “The Art of Jocob Emory”. I like that its narration style is that of a moral folktale; that you get to understand Jacob’s character from beginning to end. The twist at the end is priceless as well; implying Jacob’s creations outlived him and haunt the small town. Mr.CreepyPasta did an excellent reading of this as his earlier work, too.

Then there’s “The Gallery of Henri Beauchamp” . This story has hints of the Holder series in it mixed with pseudo- historical information provided by the narration. It also got me interested in trying absinthe for my 21st birthday; the traditional French method of preparation. It also has been narrated by the talented DistilledIllusion which I highly recommended listening to.

  64. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE USERNAME!

I agree spastic, Slenderman is overated now, all you have to do is THEN SLENDERMAN WAS DERE and you think you’ve got a creepypasta.

  65. after reading the comments, I’m definitely going to read candle cove and psychosis.

i personally love slender man bits. he’s my favorite.

on a darker note, i know this won’t do any good, but I personally implore you to take down smile.jpg. i realize it isn’t the real picture, but if one were to chance upon the real picture.. just please. i request the story be taken down

  66. I have been reading the stories on this site for about 2 years now, my favorite by far is called NOTES. i dont think it had many reads. but story and subject is so different to many others. it is written very well great work from the author

  67. If anyone is still reading this, I’m bringing up one I haven’t seen yet. The end of Awakening really scared the shit out of me. It’s not such a great or long pasta, but one of those where the last sentence makes your stomach fill up with swarming bees.

  68. My favorite creepypasta has got to be The Hole In The Wall. I think it’s just the general idea of someone being able to enter your home without you having any kind of knowledge or suspicion of it that got me so creeped out. I also liked that the author never went on and explained who it was or how it all started. I think a story is a lot scarier when some bits of information are left in the dark for you to discover later… Or not.

    http://s22568.p321.sites.pressdns.com/the-hole-in-the-wall/

  69. Girl In The Mirror

My favorite pastas? Um… I have a few! I really like Squidwards Suicide, The Theater, Brodcast Interruption, and Candle Cove. My favorite topic is Strange & Uknown.

  70. My top two favorite creepy pastas would have to be Psychosis, and He Waits For You. The latter one isn’t really creepy, but it did sort of make me question myself as to why in the hell I would even think about going through with the ritual in the story (if it was real.)

  71. As far as ideas, I absolutely loved the concept behind “On the Bus”. It was very unsettling. Concerning execution, “Candle Cove” wins hands down for me. Of course, I tend to skim past pieces with a lot of descriptive violence/gore – it all reads like “blah blah blood from the eyes blah blah Glasgow smile blah blah” to me. Gore can be written well, but often it’s used as a substitute for the scary part rather than an enhancement.

  72. My personal favorite was “Smile Dog” aslo known as smile.jpg. It really was the first pasta I read that gave me a legitimate scare, it was a lot of fun.

  73. Zasphas and Smile Dog have to be the two that made me feel the most unsettled. But that twisted feeling that Candle Cove gave me… Not many Creepypastas can pull that off successfully, and Candle Cove is one of the few that did.

A few of my other favorites would have to be The Strangers, The Song and Dance Man, and White with Red.

  74. Candle Cove was a delightful read, as well as pretty much everything on Ichor Falls. Squidward’s Suicide somehow freaked me out a lot (had to watch Gold Rush for an hour on Discovery before I could sleep that night).

I bought a “true” ghost story collection magazine about two years ago. Most of them where crap, but one honestly scared me. I don’t remember the title, but it was about a man who’d just begun working the night-shift at a power plant. He sees a figure in the dark hallway standing just outside the door. The figure can’t seem to enter the room, but instead it reaches inside.
The story was accompanied by a photoshop picture with a rather cheezy purple/black whirl design and a distorted figure.
I dunno what it was with this story that frightened me so much, but I have a lump in my throat just writing about it now. Maybe because of all of the stories, this one felt true…

Oh, and Ted’s Caving Story was really on to something…
    http://www.gigdig.com/~ted/

And let’s not forget Junji Ito, whose manga is just WEIRD
    http://www.justmegawatt.com/comics/enigmaofamigarafault.html

As for games, Silent Hill 2 is just magnificent, and Amnesia had me hiding out in a corner, clutching my latern on more than one occasion.

Can’t come up with any other ones from the top of my head right now, but there’s plenty of good ones out there. If only horror movies could capture the feel of a really good ghost story. It’s the atmosphere that makes them scary, not the gore or the “i’mma die tonight!” situation. If not, Candle Cove would just have been a cute little story…

  75. Tulpa is the only one that really impressed me. If it’s not on here, then http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Tulpa

Creepypasta never really gets me scared while I’m consuming it, but at some points in life – when staring dreamily into a mirror, when going to sleep, when life is a blur – I tend to get frightened that my subconscious will remember the things I read. That some neurons within my brain will fire when it is in a vulnerable state – that the ideas planted within will turn to life in dreams and hallucinations.

I’ve always found loss over your own consciousness or memory a terrifying thought. That’s what makes stories scary to me – not the thought that they might be real, but the thought that they might appear real. Tulpa played with that.

  76. My favorite is “The Smiling Man in Black.” I think there’s a tie for the favorite genre though. I really just love all of it though. Anything freaky is good for me.

  77. my favorites are jeff the killer dont open your eyes and the boy who loved to read the boy who loved to read gets you on the edge of your seats for a unexpected ending

  78. apocalipserider101

I personally liked The Curious Case of Smile.jpg because it has the madness add at final. I also loved all the Slenderman stories

  79. “Coatlicue” is my favorite so far. Why I love it so much? I’m not sure. Perhaps because I am going through a rough time in my life and I appreciate the story, even though it’s not that creepy.

The others that stick out in my mind are:

“The Man In the Snow” and “Psychosis”

Man in the snow because the final line REALLY scared me.

Psychosis because it is very well written and lovely.

  80. The Russian Sleep Experiment was one of the stories I read my first day on creepypasta and it has stuck with me ever since.

  81. ‘Curious Little Thing’ from over at Ichor Falls (famous for Candle Cove). It was just so well written I felt like I could see exactly what the main character was describing. It’s disturbing without going into anything explicit, which is something you rarely see done well these days. It disturbed me so much I found myself mimicking the main character’s habit (I’ll try not to spoil it). My other favourites also at Ichor Falls include:

‘Lemon Blossom Girl’, ‘The Stillwood King’, and ‘People Without Eyes’ for similar reasons.

  82. Stories like “The Bad Dream” and “Sarah O’Bannon” are my favorites. They use an event that is normal to everyone else (although “Sarah O’Bannon” required some additional information to make the situation normal), then alter the circumstances and make it a dangerous situation for the characters involved. By never saying who (or what) is the creature wearing the mother’s skin or the one who lived months without food/water, it lets you decide what it is. You will, naturally, assume it is your greatest fear or favorite entity (ghosts? a murderer? The possibilities range from normal to paranormal, depending on what you, personally, are afraid of or want it to be), or something that you don’t even know of (fearing the unknown is very common) that you really should have been worried about the whole time. Because of this, it also leaves a lasting impression on the reader.

“Wake Up” is also one of my favorites. Again, it explains a situation and makes it seem normal. However, as it goes on, it again makes the situation dangerous for the characters involved… But this time, the only character in danger is you. Now, I prefer the version that says “torture” since it becomes a far more dangerous situation. Again, you don’t know who or what is torturing you (or raping you, if you prefer that version), so you can decide how horrible it is. Of course, it uses basic human instincts (self preservation) to ensure a response from the reader.

My favorite has to be Psychosis. I love pastas that mess with your head and play with feelings of paranoia. Those are the ones that really stay with you and really make you shiver.
I also really like The Art of Jacob Emory, it’s one of the most original and well-written pastas. The storytelling almost overshadows the creepiness.
Finally, I am really fond of a lesser-known (in my opinion underrated) pasta called Call Me Tomorrow, Okay? It’s not a masterwork, but it managed to pull off a really effective twist. It’s one of those stories that become creepier the more you think about it.

  84. Ben and pshycosis are both my favourites, but I like Psycosis just that little bit more. I can’t even say why I love it so much, there are just so many things that make it brilliant and somehow terrifying (for me at least). One thing which is cool is that it isn’t clichéd at all, almost all the ideas are very different, and completely genius.

  85. Candle Cove is a good story with a good twist but isn’t scary.
Psychosis is interesting as a suspense story, and creepy at best during some parts. I don’t think it’s scary though either.
Both are great, don’t get me wrong. I just want to be scared.
And lol @ ritual stories. I hate those. I can’t stand The Holders series.

I said it on a recent Slenderman story that “The Rake” and “The Serpent Man of White Hollow Road” both scared (past tense) me a lot. They might not be the scariest ever, but both come to mind. If I reread them though, they don’t have nearly the same effect. The second one isn’t on here but can be searched on Google.

Oh how could I forget Mr. Widemouth! XD That kinda lika furby bastard! I love Childhood memories that turn out to be more creepy than you remember.
Candle coves good, but everyones said that.

  87. “Trick or Treat,” “Don’t Let the Cold Man In,” and “Mr. Widemouth” would have to be my favorites. “Trick or Treat” was a quite brilliant work, as it incorporated some of the elements of “Beings and Entites” pastas with actual historical events. “Don’t Let the Cold Man In” was well written and causes the cold to be scary. “Mr. Widemouth” was just beautiful. It had an excellent buildup and a chilling ending. I’m also quite fond of “You’re Not Scared, Right?,” “Sever the Cord,” “The Cave,” and “Salvation.”

  88. Candle Cove is my favorite. It was the first story I read here and I don’t know how I ended up on it but I really thought it was an old thread about a show. I think the best part was it didn’t go overboard and try too hard. The twist at the end was perfect in my opinion.

  89. I love all of the ‘Lost episode’ and ‘Haunted game’ pastas, I have no idea what makes them so weird to me but they really captivate me, even though everyone else seems to hate them. One of my favorites that’s sort of related is “Broadcast interruption” the description in that story chills me to the bone.

  90. I have a few. I’ll include a link if they’re not on this site.

“Her.” It gets under my skin every time. Probably the best of all the creepypasta that threatens the reader, a device that never fails to hit home for me. The twist at the end had me glaring so hard at my computer screen I thought my eyes would pop out!

“The Portraits.” Great example of an old school creepypasta. There aren’t enough pastas written in old school style nowadays, what with the mix of Slendermen and the long pastas set sometime in the narrator’s past that seem more concerned with developing the eccentric best friend character than scaring anyone. If this were written today, it would probably read like “I never really thought about it much, but I had a great childhood. During fifth grade, my best friend Sam and I used to go into the woods all the time to explore and play all sorts of wacky kids’ games as you do when you are kids. Sam was a real clever kid too, smart as heck but also impulsive and spontaneous, and he was always up for all kinds of fun. This one time we went…” and so on until the cabin is mentioned by the fifth paragraph. I miss stuff like this, and my other favourite pasta of that type…

“The Angel.” The first scary story I ever heard, back when I was in elementary school, except the killer was inside the house in that version, calling from an phone extension. Still gives me chills. You can’t beat the first horror stories you ever read.

“The Bad Dream.” A given, at this point.

“The Message,” and in a similar vein, “Wake Up.” Perfect creepypasta that use the medium of the Internet better than most pasta. With “The Message,” you can’t even be incredulous, since even if you’ve got a wall behind you, the future you knows that and is trying to communicate something different through that message. With “Wake Up,” the whole immediate sense of danger it presents is like a punch in the gut. To me, both of them are a million times scarier than the longer pieces that eclipse them in popularity, and they serve as an excellent example of my mantra when evaluating creepypasta – creepypasta are not literary short stories. They need to be scary, first and foremost, and these two excel at that.

“A Simple Ritual” (http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/A_Simple_Ritual, also known as “A Little Gift” on creepypastaindex). I have a special place in my heart for ritual pasta, but this one gets special mention since a) it’s got meta-tastic references to other pasta, b) it takes place in Suffolk and c) I like the little theological twist.

The Holders Series (theholders.org). Like I said, I love ritual pasta, and this is the the gold standard.

  91. You want a username? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE USERNAME!

The Bad Dream, its so short and terrifying. Its spooky and well wrote, I can’t describe it. A soon as you read the words ‘The thing wearing mommy’s skin leant up’ You can imagine it. Eeeugh. You don’t know what happens. :'(
And also, how can you not like Jeff? >:O

    1. Yea, because everyone loves joker spin offs with knives. Personally, Slenderman is my favorite, Jane is my second, Jeff is my third.

  92. It has to be psychosis, of all the pastas I’ve read that is one of the few I remember by name, probably because it had an ending that didn’t disappoint you.

A close second and by far the one that has rattled me the most was the one where the girl finds her bother hanging from the rafters with a parasitic fungus growing from the back of his head, I can’t think of the name but that one really stuck with me.

  93. Its very hard to choose a favouite, but my personal favourite is candle cove. It just seemed like a few people discussing an old tv show, until the final comment. It chilled me right to my spine and got me reasearching about it and watching youtube videos of apparent ‘episodes’.
