Nightmares

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

A recent study by the National Psychiatric Institute in Boston, MA, concluded that no activity can account for the phenomenon known as nightmares. Whereas many dreams come from unconscious desires, most nightmares seem to come from an outside source independent of the individual. In fact, when subjects are asked to recall nightmares they are almost always found in the same memory section as actual physical memories, not the section where normal dreams are replayed. In other words, those aliens and creatures you see at night in your “dreams?” They’re real.

  1. Not really a story, more like a random fact. And its completely misinterpreted, the study means to say that the brain interprets the nightmares as if they were, making them feel real to the brain, but it is not REAL, if nightmares were real everything would be like living in silent hill

  2. This by far the shittiest made-up research I’ve been given to read. Most nightmares may be a normal reaction to stress, and some clinicians believe they aid people in working through traumatic events. Frequent occurrence of nightmares becomes a disorder when it impairs social, occupational and other important areas of functioning. At this point, it may be referred to as Nightmare Disorder (formerly Dream Anxiety Disorder) or “repeated nightmares.”

  3. Something Or Someone

A very interesting fact. I’ll have to remember that to scare the crap out of my friend xD (She’s deathly afraid of night time)

  4. With this I think, maybe you just remember your nightmares differently than dreams. I mean what do you remember most your great dreams or your nightmares that make you wake up about pissing yourself.

  5. Good thing they’re real, too. The stuff that comes from the outside makes for the best source of inspiration, pondering and conversation, and the worse price I’ve ever had to pay for it was a slightly crappy day of feeling a bit drained…

  6. i actually thought that was pretty creepy, could have done without the last line saying that the nightmares were real though, that would have been even scarier to come to the conclusion yourself, but yummy pasta definitely =)

  7. Lame, there are amny signs that show it is not true. Like the fact that if this was true, the news reporters would be all over it. And the goverment would supply pills so that the nightmares you have don’t come anymore, basiclly blocking out a part of your brain. Lastly, the goverment would have taken this story off of the sight, so that you don’t get scared and have the nightmares where the supposed demons come out to play.

I would, however, like to congradgulate the writer for making his or her stor sound very news like and official. That’s all I can say.

  8. THEN WHO WAS NIGHTMARE?

I’ve been trying all day to be the first commenter on a creepypasta to do that. Yes, I have no life, thanks for asking.

  9. It’s not a bad concept, but the jump from A to B is too wide. Memory storage “location” doesn’t imply any kind of reality. The basic conclusion the story tries to reach is a pretty good one, but the means by which it gets there are just weak.

  10. while this is a good little story, dreams are just caused by random neurons firing in your brain and your brain scrambling to make up a story to go along with it

  11. As far as I know, there is no separate memory section for dreams. Everything is stored in the same place. And it’s been shown before that imagined experiences and actual experiences evoke the same kinds of activation patterns in general.

I probably just made God kill a catgirl.

  12. definitely cant look at a mirror or breathe properly for a while ><

<> cuz i’m still new i’m assuming ur writing this and as a student in university i’m very impressed… honestly ur writing is remarkable, to deliver that amount of suspense and paranoia into the audience with such short stories is amazing, and ur awesome cuz of that ^^ and mind fuck wasnt a diss, if anything its what i got from ppl talking about animes because of the way they mess with our heads XD

  13. man…just started reading today and… addicted…

    your work is awesome.

  16. Hey man. First time poster.

This site is probably my favorite on the entire net and I just found it today. I love creepypasta and I love the creativity that goes into the really good stuff. It makes you think and it gives you something to be grateful for when things are there worst. At least you don’t have to deal with demented japanese ghosts and men in black.

Screw everyone who hates it. They don’t have to read it. I appreciate all your hard work man.

    Peace.

i agree with you…..i actually found this site when i was on a social game called IMVU and my first Creepypasta was Jeff the killer. i fell in love with that story ^^. And this was probably more than a year ago. Any-who i rate all the stories 10/10 even though it wasn’t scary cuz i know the effort they put into it. So thumbs up to all the people that was brave enough to submit their stories XD

      1. To be completely honest, I love the stories that have the creepy atmosphere but won’t give you a heart attack because it’s so scary.

  17. Random Passerby

Heh. This one kept me awake at night. But if this were true, then I never found that arsenal of zombie-busting weapons I had in my last nightmare. Maybe I need to reach further under my pillow…
