Scary Paranormal Stories & Short Horror Microfiction

Creepypasta

FavoriteLoadingAdd this post to your list of favorites!

This month’s topic was suggested by Dave Taylor, and big thanks to him because I was having trouble coming up with a topic!

It’s pretty self-explanatory. If you’re a reader only, why do you feel so drawn to reading scary and creepy stories? If you’re a writer, do you have a reason for your desire to create horror fiction? If you’re both, well, you get to answer both questions!

Last month I asked how you discovered Creepypasta, and I guess that this question is sort of the inevitable continuation – why did you stick around? What about creepypastas compels you to want to continue reading and/or writing them?

I look forward to seeing your answers!

I guess part of why I read them is because I’m still looking for something to really unsettle me. I want to find something that scares me, as a sort of test for myself, I suppose.

I do the same with horror movies, I try to watch a ton of them (but end up largely disappointed) because I want one that makes me scared to go to sleep that night.

I write horror to try and provide that feeling to others. I want to unsettle them; I want them to be unable to sleep at night.

Basically, I do the same thing you do. I read them to make myself scared and see what I can withstand. I also do it to find what I actually am scared of. I find the mental/science-y ones unsettling. I think I like reading better than watching scary movies because I’d rather let the image be in my mind, created by my mind, than something created by someone else attempting to scare me. I’m trying to greatly improve my writing. I want to do what you do. To try to unsettle the reader. To leave them looking behind their shoulder when the light is switched off.

I read creepy pasta ( or other creepy stuff) when I’m bored, angry, or sad. It serves as a perfect distraction and it fills me with a strong emotion… Fear.
Can’t beat that heart racing feeling ^^
    Happy new year guys!

I love being creeped out:D There’s just something about it.. I just started reading these stories recently, but I’m hooked for sure. Sometimes I go to the really bad pastas just to read the hilarious comments.. but mostly I love the originality of some of the stories I’ve read. I get jealous, because I could never write like these guys..

I became attracted to the horror genre through watching Pan’s Labyrinth. I then realised, hating anything scary before, how beautiful and fascinating it can really be. From there, I discovered silent hill.

I can’t give a clear answer as to why I enjoy scary/creepy stories and horror, but I guess I enjoy feeling unsettled or creeped out. The atmosphere scary stories give really intrigues me.

Hi I love scary stories because it’s very hard to scare me. I could read a real book of the dead in a grave and not be scared. Too many things have happened I’ve seen ghosts lots of times. I saw a woman in a hospital gown in the northridge hospital in the mirror in the bathroom. When I was a kid my bed would shake and I could feel steps on my bed until something would rest on my chest. I could feel it watching me but it thankfully never did anything. It would just eventually walk back off the bed and I would hear steps down the hall. I would hear my name being called to the bathroom at night when I was young but I was never stupid enough go see what they wanted. Even now if I walk alone at night I can hear my name called sometimes and I get a terrible chill. I once made fun a girl from south America who said her family moved her because there was a vampire was spirit chasing her this was way before twlight and Harry potter probably just came out. Let’s just say I regretted making fun of her that night. I have had balls roll by themselves around me. Just too much to write so I’m so numb to any story or movie but it’s still fun to get some stories that I can relate to that have actually happened to me like the bedtime series. I would love to hear anyone else who had ghosts mess with them. I would say I didn’t know why but I used to mock the spirits and welcomed it I still do and things would eventually happen. My best friend used to openly mock demons and ghosts until he had a visitor one night… Now he tries to go to church more often lol. If you really want to see a ghost and don’t care about the consequences against you or loved ones just start talking shit for awhile about Satan and god and ghosts and stuff will slowly start happening but don’t do it if you can’t take it.

I write about what scares me; the dark, howling, brain parasites, strangers, death and loneliness. I do it because I understand a little bit of neurology, and what I know is that fear is the single greatest contributor to what we call the human condition. It is the root of all emotion, choice, evil, and progress.

I write to help understand something that I can’t define. Something elusive and primal that I can’t live without, something that reminds me of the will to survive in a cold and uncaring universe. Even if those things frighten me to consider.

I call it the Dirty Paper Machine.

I like reading scary stories for the thrill and the chills I get as I read something scary or mysterious. I write scary stories because it helps me create a new reality, as frightening as it is but still sometimes more comfortable than our own. Sometimes.

I enjoy feedback, honestly. That’s how it started….then I just kinda started writing based on things that had actually happened to me so it became more and more enjoyable.

I read creepypastas because it’s sort of an escape from the real world. You can go off into an imaginary place full of the unknown, and most people are too afraid to do that for themselves. I think the community on creepypasta is much more than a bunch of writers and random passers by who read the stories, we help each other escape the mundane everyday grind.

True…but the people who write them are always like “True story!” and the ones with creepy paranormal beings (that kill you). Can’t they write not scary creepy pastas? And it always results in death of someone.

The reason that I read Creepypasta stories is that I absolutely love them. They draw you in and most have very good detail and also some use imagery and take that to the next level to make you feel creeped out. They’re amazing and I actually want to star writing scary stories one day. I doubt that the story would be as good as some of the ones on here. But anyways I really love Creepypasta and hope that the stories get even more creepy :D.

Well I think I posted on the last discussion post that my first pasta was ‘The Russian Sleep Experiment’. So in a way what compels me to read more horror fiction is the promise of physical terror, because I think its the most frightening/interesting kind of fear.

Also I often see what random pasta names jump out to me as beacons of my story preference, and that can drag me addictively into new kinds of story, which in turn makes me read more, so the possibilities with horror are simply endless, to reader or author.

I think I like to, because, well, come on. I’m that kind of person that enjoys getting scared. I like watching horror films, reading scary stories, etc. I think it all started at a birthday sleepover of a friend’s…Her parents were gonna be out all night, so we decided to watch a horror movie, even though we weren’t allowed. (I was 11 at the time.) The birthday girl, Mackenzie, picked out a classic. Silence of The Lambs. None of us could go to sleep that night. I loved it. How my imagination could bring out the darkest things in my mind. I know, weird, right? Lol, but I just like the thrill of being scared a little, my heart racing.

I continue to read pastas every chance I get, because they’re interesting and seem to ring with truth. Why are humans so afraid of the night, shadows, and anything unknown? All the pastas hear tell why, and I became addicted to reading about what may be the cause of our fear.

Well, creepypastas evoke some sort of curiosity in me. But I’ve been writing horror for about quite a while. The reason I write horror however, is because it’s a topic that most people dread. It’s a sense of fear, your paranoia unleashed. That thing – That monster hiding in your closet while your heartbeat is pulsating more than before, waiting for the conclusion of the story while feverishly tapping your foot against the floor. It’s a sense of facing your own fears, and ultimately understanding it.

I read scary stories because… hmm… well, I used to never be able to read them. But, for the past year or so, I have had severe nightmare problems, so reading scary stories just makes them more interesting (what’s the point of a bland nightmare? there isn’t one).

Now, as a writer of scary stories, I see it mostly as an emotional outlet. There are many ways one can expel their emotions: singing, dancing, reading, etcetra. I expel them by writing horror stories and drawing strange pictures. Yes, I know that sounds concerning. But oh well, horror stories entertain YOU if you’re here.

I read them for that strange thrill that good creepypastas can give me. Always liked the horror genre and reading, so this is the perfect combination for me. It’s also interesting to see what people’s imaginations can create, as I know that mine can come up with pretty scary stuff sometimes.

I believe that I read creepypastas because well I’m one of those people that don’t get scared that easily. I like to see just what people come up with and I just love the feeling of fear. I have tried everything but I haven’t yet witnessed true fear. Haven’t you heard the saying ‘Curiosity killed the cat’? And I just love reading. Sense I’m at home all day there is nothing to do… T_T
