In The Mirror

Estimated reading time — < 1 minute

Normally you sleep soundly, but the thunderstorm raging outside is stirring you from your sleep. You begin to doze, then another crash jolts you awake. The cycle lasts most of the night. So you lay there, eyes open and outward, looking at your room stretching out before you in oblong shadows. Your eyes move from nameless object, to object, until you reach your mirror, sitting adjacent to you across the room.

Suddenly a flash of lighting, and the mirror flickers in illumination. For a scant second the mirror revels to you dozens of faces, silhouettes within its frame, mouths open and eyes blackened. They stare out at you, their black pupils fixed upon your face.

Then it is done. Are you sure of what you have seen? Unsettled, you don’t sleep for the rest of the evening. The next morning you remove the mirror from your wall and toss it in the trash. It didn’t matter if the vision you had seen was of truth or falsehood, you wanted to be rid of that mirror. In fact, you scrap every mirror in your house.

Weeks pass and the event of that night falls into passive memory. You are spending the day at a friend’s house and it’s time to use the bathroom. While you are in there the faucet starts to run without you prompting it. Taken aback by this, you do not yet act, trying to reason with your paranoia in your mind. The water starts to steam and a skin of moisture covers the mirror up above. You’re watching intently as words form: “Please return the mirrors. We miss watching you sleep at night.”

1. Normally this story wouldn’t freak me out at all.. however, it is night time where I am, it’s stormy, and I’m already freaked out by mirrors as is.

2. For me I have a big closet and its dore is a sliding glass door 2x scary closet and mirror and gues what it is write at the foot of my bed

3. you have to make 2 Really you do you kinda just left us hanging and with the creater making all of these storys you would think he wouldent dare to sleep

4. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
it was awesomely not scary. better luck next time.

5. This freaks me out because I used to have an “imaginary” friend I could only talk to in mirrors in my childhood home. I’m still terrified of mirrors because of an incident that happened. This made me, if possible, more scared of mirrors.

6. THEN WHO WAS NAMELESS OBJECT?
No, seriously, who has a “nameless object” in his room? Who put it there? Why? O__o
Nameless object is creepy. Mirror people is cute, and polite too. :-)

7. The politeness of the… Enteties?… Didn’t fit their frames, as your described them as pretty horrifying, until they said please and thank you.
6/10

8. well at least they politly asked him to put the mirrors back instead of forcing/almost killing him too like i suspected would happen

9. …you write “okay” on the mirror, but in reverse, so the mirror people can read it. You quickly make an excuse to your friend about the trash and get home as quickly as possible because it\\\’s wednesday morning and the garbage is collected on Wednesday afternoon. You pull up to your house just as the garbage men are about to empty your garbage can. \\"Wait!\\" you yell, desperate to save your mirrors. They look at you, annoyed at being interrupted from their work. You quickly run over and rescue your mirrors (if that\\\’s all they really are) from the garbage, offering your apologies to the garbage men.
later that night you are ready for bed. You turn off the lights and look in the mirror. No one is there.
You fog up the mirror with your breath and write \\"are you there?\\" in reverse so they can read it. You wait and anxiously and nothing happens for a few long, tense moments. Disappointed, you begin to turn away, when writing appears upon the mirror. You wait for the author to finish, then you read. In handwriting much similar to your own, not that you were much good at telling the difference, they had written, \\"Yes. Now go to sleep. You need you need your rest for class. Don\\\’t forget about that big exam in your 1:30 class about Art History in the 19th century.\\"
Needless to say, you completely freak out. With a trembling hand, you write out your response, asking them who they are and how they came to exist within your mirror. They tell you that they are your loved ones that have died. Their eyes were blackened when you saw them because they don\\\’t sleep very well, keeping watch over you all the time. Their mouths were open because they were shocked at the brightness of the lightning. They don\\"t know why you can only see them when the lightning illuminates the mirror, although you suspect it\\\’s similar to the reason you can only see someone standing behind a one way mirror when they want to have a bright light silhouetting them. You ask why they never tried to contact you. They tell you it\\\’s because you needed to live your life without interference. That they are were forbidden from initiating the contact. You ask who forbade them. Writing appears upon the mirror, different from before. The words are glowing white hot, blinding you in the darkness. Once your eyes adjust, you can read the words, \\"Do not question the Abyss. Do not ask for answers that would destroy your sanity.

10. Meh, not creepy. Maybe cause I have never been woken up by a thunderstorm, even when lightning struck just meters from my house? Oh, and the fact that I don’t have a mirror in my room.

11. I have heard that some people use to believe that you shouldn’t sleep with a mirror facing your bed, especially when you sleep, or else your soul will be confused when it tries to return to your body.

I think i read a slightly different version of this story some where.

12. Not scary in any way, shape, or form. Imagine it like this. Your baseball team has decided to stop playing. You send them a letter reading: ‘PLEASE COME BACK. WE MISS WATCHING YOU PLAY.’ Do you see? not remotely scary. As for WHO W4S PHONE, We don’t have any objections to you adding to a pasta, but, please check your spelling. Please.

13. well fuck. It’s almost midnight, I’m tired, its stormy outside and Theres a mirror close to my bed. Just thought id say bye b4 I die ;_;

14. Oh, but it IS cute. Like not the whole, monster we watch you sleep, stalker thing, but they said. “Please.” Just that one word in that one sentance. It’s so cute to think that whatever it was said please!!!! So nienh to you haters!

15. …Your heart races. It takes your mind a moment to process anything but fear, but then you begin to decide to do as they ask. You certainly do not want them to be angry, turning on the faucet showed that they have some controll over the phisicall world, and it’s not like you could avoid mirrors your entire life. They have been watching you a long time and nothing has happened, maybe it’s best to keep it that way. You begin to reachout to write ‘ok’ on the mirror, but recoil before you touch it. Instead say the softly under your breath, it is lost in the sound of the still running faucet. The water then slowly stops and the fog receeds from the glass. You just stand there for a moment, then you exit the bathroom abruptly. Your friend asks if your alright, you know it’s obbvious your not so you tell him you’re fealling sick. He suggest you go home and get some rest, you agree but sleeping is the last thing you want to do. When you get home you put the mirror back up carefull not to touch the glass but not sure why. Then you avoid your bedroom untill an hour past when you’d normally go to bed. Then you decide it’s not smart to keep them waiting longer and go in. From your be you can’t help but stare at the mirror, there’s another thunder storm outside and you’re afraid to see their black hollow eyes again. You begin to think this was a bad idea, you’ll never be able to sleep with it in front of you. An hour passes. You try to ignore the now humid air in your room. You try to clpse your eyes and sleep. But you can’t stop watching the mirror. Then lightning strikes near by, the entire room is illuminated, but all you care about is the writing on the fogged mirror. “why aren’t you sleeping?”. You pull the covers over your head like a child. “this was a bad idea” you repeat endlessly in your mind. With the air saturated with moister and the think quilt on top of you, you can’t breath. As you lift it off there is another flash of lightning and a new message “we want you to sleep” you’re horrified, but you continue to watch the mirror. After awhile the storm seems to be dying and you begin to relax a bit. Then the brightest flash yet. You read “we can make you sleep” durring the short flash. Before you can flinch, the room lights up more more time and you see you didn’t read the whole message “we can make you sleep forever”. You scream as the mirror begins to crack. You even more lovely when your covered in blood.

Hope you didn’t mind me adding a little to your creepy pasta, I liked it but I didn’t want the monster to be considered cute.

16. Dammit! I’m reading this at nearly 1 am and there’s a giant ass mirror right above my head….Fuck…They’re probably lol’ing right now as they read this. O^O

17. Not really creepy. Kinda cute.

Sort of creepy if you think of how long the mirror deadlies have been there for, likely.. Since a baby? “Aww, look.. So cute. Let’s watch him/her!”

Don’t seem very violent. Maybe they’re dead family? Waiting for you to join them?

First undeadies I’ve read about that seem content to.. Wait, pleasantly.

18. made me lol
flash was creepy though
I guess i will close the door to my bathroom toni…

shit almost forgot the decortive sun mirror that is so high up no way I can move/cover it..

oh well maybe they will protect me from the other beings coming after me tonight after all the pastas ive read

19. …I have like 5 separate mirrors in my room, so this is not so great…my own fault for reading MirrorPasta at night, really.

But yeah. They can watch me sleep, that’s cool. BUT THEY HAVE TO LOOK AWAY WHEN I GET DRESSED, DAMN IT. >>

20. I’m not sure “that’s kind of cute” was the intended reaction, but I totally smiled at the ending and thought that.

21. this was extremely creepy.
why do people keep saying its cute and they were “so polite”?
stop trying to be cool.
it’s still amazingly creepy.
i wouldn’t put the mirror’s back up.
even if they are being polite, they’re still undead things watching me sleep o.e

22. I actually kinda giggled at that last line. I’m pretty paranoid about mirrors – always have been, really. But it’s kinda cute, thinking of them as polite little mirror people. :3

23. Count me among the many who think it’s really cute.

Although when I get dressed, I tend to be standing in front of the bedroom mirror.

…Nah, they’re still cute. Even if they watch me pick out panties.

24. Holder of the Penis

Short and sweet, loved the ending.

Kinda reminds me of how I met my girlfriend. Except replace ‘mirrors’ with ‘webcam in womens toilet’, and replace ‘sleep’ with you-know-what.

25. Creepy and a little unsettling in the beginning.

But the last sentence seemed like there was no threat at all. Kinda sweet actually.

26. That’s…cute.
Goddamn, I was expecting to be at least slightly uncomfortable around mirrors in the night now, but…it’s cute. Just that.

Think the morror people will have tea with me if I ask them politely?

27. ….can they still see me if none of my mirrors face my bed? *wishes she hadn’t saved up weeks of creepypasta to read after midnight on halloween…in the dark*

28. “Great. As if I wasn’t paranoid of mirrors enough.”

QTF.
I was scared of mirrors ever since a friend told me about the Bloody Mary trick in 5th grade at a camp.
Still kinda am.
And as I was reading this, I looked over at the mirror on my closet door, which is parallel to me, where I can see my reflection, and my eyeliner is smudged all across my eyes, making them seem dark, it scared the fuck out of me. D:

29. Kovi, did you even bother to read the description of that YouTube video?

“Another short vid based on creepypasta found on /x/”

BASED ON THIS CREEPYPASTA.

Are you stupid or something?

30. Okay that was creepy and I perhaps wouldn’t have been so creeped out if it hadn’t ended the way that I planned. That was cool!!

31. I’d probably put the mirrors back up . . .

Sounds like they’re spirits that just need someone to connect to, being dead and stuff. :S

32. *giggles*
o god, stalker much?

thats worse then an ex girlfriend!

and i actually LIKED the “we miss watching you sleep” line…

33. Call me crazy, but I think the ending was alright. It was sutle. They were watching him/her EVERY night not just that one. Just cut out the politness “We miss watching you sleep at night.”
Creepy.

34. #16: But WHO WAS PHONEY!?

And while the idea of mirror beings staring at you sleeping isn’t as immediately terrifying as, say, mirror beings that rip your heart out through your navel, it is rather creepy…that may be how they get off.

35. I don’t know… I think it would’ve been better if the last line had been something like “We don’t need the mirrors to watch you.” Or something like that.

36. Dude, definitely agree with the “endearing” sentiment. I mean, it’s weird as all get out, but you can’t help but go “Awwf, how cute!”

I want pet mirror stalkers. o.o

37. This One….Blew.
I Was Expecting A Better Ending.
What; I’m Not Sure.
I Must Admit Though, The Concept Did Creep Me Out…

Now If Only I Could Cover The Two 6ft Mirrors In My Room..:P

38. The Person Formerly Known as 'Noneya'

But, WHO WAS MIRROR STALKERS?

Seriously, that would creep me out. It would be like having a clan of peeping-toms inside your house.

Why the heck would they watch that person sleep? Dont they have other things to do? Do they see him in the bathroom? Do in still water-reflections? Are there more of them in every mirror on the planet?

39. LOL this one made me laugh too but I actually liked it, the sort of cute/creepy nameless faces who miss watching her sleep :(
Oh and also who was mirror? :P

40. thepizzaelemental

Yeah, this was wasn’t creepy, but was still amusing, thanks to that last line.

Sure, they’re spooky unexplained mirror phantoms. But at least they said ‘please.’ Heck, i’d probably put the mirrors back up just to indulge them, if they’re really that polite. They might not be bad to have around.

41. I’d put the mirrors back and talk to them.

They don’t wanna hurt you!
They just wanna watch you sleep!

42. The fact that they were watching him sleep at night is creepy but knowning they like wrote it in the mirror is like.. :/ Over all its okay, Theres a video of some of this story on youtube, type in ‘creepypasta’.. Ciao! :)

43. Aww, I miss you guys too.
Okay, I’ll put them back, only because you said please though.

Seriously though, this one made me giggle.

44. I like the concept, but there were a couple awkward things. I don’t see how the memory could fade if you threw away all your mirrors; the lack of a mirror in the bathroom would be a constant reminder. And the last line was more cute than creepy.

45. 1. TO OTHER “I Was Phone” I AM AM ORIGINAL I WAS PHONE FUCK YOU UP THE ASS.

2. there isa video eerily similar to this on youtube search “creepypasta”
and click themirror one in related theyre both pretty cool :)

46. yeah, they seemed so nice. I’d probably put my mirrors up just because..well, they said please, and hadn’t done me any specific harm..

47. Brix shat. Scary in a flattering way, won’t look at mirrors the same way anymore. I lol’d
at the last line, more “OH GOD DON’T KILL ME” than funny.

-The Canadian Anonymous

48. This is actually pretty creepy considering I have a huge mirror facing my bed and there was a thunderstorm last night…

49. yeh, this one’s kind of sweet, like the mirror people are actually fond of me and would, assuming they could, use their instantly-boiling-water phenomenon to protect me from other baddies mentioned in creepypastas…like the giant cat that listens to peoples’ key going into their doors and makes its own copy and sneaks in and kills everyone. i bet a good scalding to the face would deter it. good old mirror people to the rescue, and if all i have to do is sleep for them, i kind of win, hard.

50. oh.. oh shit.

that kinda creeped me out, but it’s 4:47 AM and i’m half asleep. i’ll read it in the morning to see if it succeeds.

chances are it will.

51. Well, since you said please…

Nice pasta. Had me hanging for a really freaky ending, but… I think this was better. :)

52. wtf? do the people in the mirrors wanna kill the dude or do they really like watchin him sleep? kinda unclear
