Q: How do I submit a story and get it featured on the main site?

A: Either e-mail it to me (submit AT creepypasta DOT com) or post it on the forums and add a link to the submission thread. NOT ALL SUBMITTED STORIES GET POSTED ON THE MAIN SITE. Stories are added at my discretion. Also, if you’re looking for feedback, the forums are your best bet - I get too many submissions to my e-mail address to reply to each one with a critique without it eating up my entire life. If you choose the e-mail submission route, YOU WILL ONLY BE CONTACTED IF YOUR STORY GETS POSTED.

Q: Do you write these stories? Can I have permission to publish/anthologize them?
A: No, and no. I have yet to write any story featured on this website; if I ever do, it will be noted (don’t hold your breath, though - I’ve never been one for creative writing). These stories are mostly products of 4chan’s anonymous imageboards; as such, I have no idea who originally wrote most of them and it’s not my place to give anyone permission to publish them. The only exception to this rule is credited submissions (easily discerned by the “credited to” footnote at the end of the post) - if you’re interested in contacting the author of a credited pasta, I CAN forward your email and questions to the author. I cannot, however, guarantee that they will reply.

Q: OMG WHY ARE YOU DELETING MY COMMENTS? CENSORSHIP! CONSPIRACY! INTERNET HITLER!
A: I use WordPress to run this blog, and I have comments set so that EVERY SINGLE comment is sent to the moderation queue before it shows up permanently on the website. The reason for this is simple; this site gets a huge amount of attempted comment spam, and I’m not down with that. So, I go through by hand and read each & every comment and manually approve them all. However, WordPress is kind of weird in that it will initially show your posted comment (I’m assuming as an attempt to confirm to the comment leaver that their post did make it through, but that’s purely conjecture on my part), and a few moments later the comment will “disappear” from public view and go into the comment moderation queue. So if you’ve just posted a comment and it seems to have vanished/not shown up at all, calm down - I probably haven’t even SEEN it yet, much less deleted it. I approve all comments that aren’t spam, even the critical, mean, offensive, whiny and idiotic ones; this can be verified and seen all over the site’s comment sections. If you really think that I’m singling you out… sorry, but you’re probably not special enough for me to change my mind about this practice and suddenly start some all-out war of internet oppression, sorry to burst your bubble, kids.

Q: Do you want/need help with running this website or approving comments?
A: This question usually gets asked if life gets in the way and something prevents me from updating for a day or approving comments as quickly as I usually do; and the answer is no. I also have more than enough moderators on the forums, as well. If you really want to help, a donation or simply clicking the google ads is honestly the best way, since this site is getting increasingly expensive to run.

Q: There’s foul language/violence/offensive topics/other dumb shit that bothers me on this website! I DEMAND you change this to make your site more child-friendly!
A: It’s hard to believe, but people seriously have left comments and sent me emails telling me that this website is too offensive and that we need to tone it down make it more “acceptable”. In a word: no. This website is NOT aimed at a pre-teen audience; I mean, come on. Use your common sense: this website was inspired by a 4chan (one of the most NSFW sites around) meme, and it’s dedicated to creepy stories that can often veer into the gruesome and/or mention adult themes and language. It’s just plain stupid to think that a website like this would cater to children or people who are easily offended, and it’s even more retarded to expect me to change things for an audience that probably shouldn’t even be viewing this site in the first place. That brings me to my next point…

Q: I don’t like this category/style of story! You shouldn’t post them! CHANGE EVERYTHING JUST FOR MEEEEEEEE!
A: No, fuck off.

Q: What happened to the cbox? Why won’t you bring it back? Will you reconsider if I whine enough about it in the comments?
A: The cbox is gone, because it was a piece of shit and literally everyone involved in running the site hated it, especially myself. If you don’t get why it was so horrible, you were probably part of the problem. This is a site to archive creepypasta, not serve as a chat room for annoying kids and failtrolls. Go away.

A few more random tidbits about myself and the site, as well as contact/submission info (and even how to help support the site, if you’re interested) can be found in the About section.

I sent in a submission for the website, but you never got back to me. If you didn’t like it, it’s fine but you could’ve at least replied back..

  2. Amber, I get around 10-15 submissions per day, and I also try and read the ones submitted via the forums as well. Because it would take way too much time for me to respond to every single one individually - and I don’t always decide whether I’m going to post a story or not the first time I read it - I usually just respond as I post them, letting the person know that their story has been accepted and giving them the link to the post.

You have to understand that I do have another job, friends, life, hobbies, etc and that quite frankly making money to support myself takes precedence over responding promptly to every single e-mail I get. I’m 24 years old and don’t have anyone to fall back on and my roommate just lost his job, so I’ve been working much more than usual lately (to the tune of no days off whatsoever).

Also, when I don’t like a pasta, I really can’t bring myself to be awful and mean to the person who sent it, since I respect that they at least tried… especially when they’re on the younger side. So I prefer just not responding to ANYONE unless I use their story, to kind of preempt myself from having to make those kinds of responses.

I hope that you can understand. If you want constructive criticism and feedback, the forums are the best place to go.

I got banned, but in I believe I shouldn’t have been. I was talking to a friend and some trolls started messing with me using some information I had told said friend and I ended up getting banned for it. I know it was stupid of me for talling my friend here but his internet was messing up as was mine so this was the most we could talk on. The ban wouldn’t bother me some much if it wasn’t for some of the things they were saying, which to be frank I rather not repeat. I believe that they should have been banned not me, but I have no control over that.

Where did you find that image for the “Unknown” section. I’ve seen the “locations” picture before, but I’m really curious as to where that creepy woman in the hallway originates.

  5. @Kathryn - I don’t really remember anymore - probably got posted on /x/ awhile back, I just happened to have it saved in my “creepy images” folder. Sorry =X

here here! @ who was phone? telling people to piss off and what not.

i sure know i couldn’t run a sight and keep my sanity with all of these tweens, nuisances, and stupid spammers, i’d go nuts.

    go you!

  7. Thank you, WHO WAS PHONE, for all the entertaining stories! When I’ve had a rough day, I like to look at the new pasta you added, it really cheers me up and take my mind off of things. Keep up the great work!

  8. AnonyMouse Jun 5th 2009

No one to fall back on?

    WHO WAS BOYFRIEND???

  9. JasonDaath Jun 10th 2009

Is there some reason the “Older posts” button doesn’t actually in any way lead to the older posts anymore?

  10. Jason, I have no idea what you mean. I just clicked ‘Older Entries’ and it went to the next page of posts, so…

  11. Omarlobo Jun 13th 2009

@Who was phone: I think Jason means that it sends him to a feedburner page where the exact same pastas from the front page are listed in full mode, theres no way to check older entries,at least thats what I think happened since I had that problem

  12. I’m sorry, I can’t seem to replicate what you’re talking about. When I hit ‘Older Entries’, it takes me to the next page of posts. The only way to get to the page you’re talking about is to click on the feedburner icon on the sidebar. I can’t imagine that either are you are somehow mixing the two up, so I’m really confused.

  13. Nick/Dfork Jun 13th 2009

I have so much respect for you.

You run this site, with all of those damn people who grew up thinking that the world revolves around them commenting on every little thing they don’t like, you have to work to keep yourself and your roommate’s heads above water, and you search for new pastas every day.

    Keep up the amazing work.

  14. Omarlobo Jun 14th 2009

Odd, it’s working now, either something changed and it was momentary or silly me was clicking just a bit below the correct link, either way sorry for wasting your time and I agree with Nick, you are doing an amazing work and we all thank you for all these delicious pastas.

  15. I actually had the same problem maybe…3 out of 5 times I tried clicking “older entries” from the main page? It took me to the same feedburner page Omarlobo & Jason mentioned.

After the third time though, I got annoyed so I tried just adding “page/2″ to the url to get to the page…and it worked!

  16. …make that 5 out of 7 times.

  17. Anonymous Aug 28th 2009

Where is the “locations” picture from? That’s honestly one of the creepiest pictures I’ve ever seen, but I can’t find it anywhere else and I’m very curious. Thanks!

  18. vamphottie Aug 28th 2009

if this site is 2 offensive 4 u dont go on it u stupids! this site is amazing and now that i know how to publish stories on it im going 2 use the most vulger and violant things i can… not really i do have taste lol!! hahahahah!!! ps grape

  19. ironblade87 Sep 30th 2009

    - to Anonymous asking for locations picture.

That’s from the Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC just south of Boone. Go up north 321 and you’ll pass it on your left to Appallachian State.

  20. Anonymous Oct 20th 2009

Re: the locations picture - thank you very much for your reply! I’m actually rather shocked, because I live very close to that area and I was just at Tweetsie a few weeks ago. I’ve never, ever seen the thing in the photo, though. I wonder where they keep it?

Thanks again for your very helpful reply!

  21. Bel-Air'd Oct 26th 2009

Will you ever add a “random story” function to the site?

Something like creepypasta.net to keep things a bit more surprising, and easier to find something new to read.

  22. This hasn’t been commented on in a while.

But anyways, I found this site around mid-october 2009, and I have read every single story on the entire website. I know I sound sort of weird, but I just LOVE creepy stories.

Thanks for all your hard work man.

  23. WH0 W4S PH0NE? Jan 26th 2010

I think it would be nice if you added a way to rate pastas with the average rating apeering next to the title so I don’t waste time reading bad pastas.

  24. bryguy Feb 11th 2010

I was going to ask the same thing as the guy above me. What happened to the old ratings system the site used to have? It was a great way to find the best pastas more quickly.

  25. Squiloh Feb 28th 2010

when i submit by email, should i put the title of the pasta i’m posting in the subject box? i wasn’t sure if it mattered but just incase..

  26. I personally think that you deserve a standing ovation, WHO WAS PHONE? you put up with those whinging bastards who couldn’t tell a good story if it shot them in the balls, and the virtual spats of the likes of Voilent Harvest and Mashum (if either of you are reading this, quit the stupidity and grow the fuck up!) Three cheers for WHO WAS PHONE? Hip hip HOORAY!! Hip hip HOORAY!! Hip hip HOORAY!!

  27. niggers Mar 24th 2010

Suck my balls WHO WAS PHONE you whine more than anyone else here

  28. Great site!!!!

and @ N**gers you’re a dick! fuck off and grow up.

  29. Jack Sixx May 11th 2010

I got banned, and I don’t understand why. What did I do wrong? Can I fix it? Is the ban permanent? Help me understand.

  30. I’ve never banned anyone from the main site. Plus, you’re posting right now, so…

  31. BananaCorn May 29th 2010

Hey, have you removed the sidebar chat? If so, why?

  32. Broderick Jul 17th 2010

Well I found this site not too long ago thanks to a mention at the escapist. Thanks for making such an interesting website. It seems these days most sites like these dont even have that good of stories, or when you think they do, they are just disguised pop up scares. Again thanks for bringing me back to my younger days when scary stories were actualy scary, and made you paranoid at night.

  33. Caedus Jul 20th 2010

Nice touch, adding the creepy music to the site ;P

  34. Julian Aug 15th 2010

can anybody explain to me the whole “who was phone” joke i see everywhere?

  35. Icalasari Sep 4th 2010

Julian: Read the oldest story (it can be found in any section), and you’ll understand

Who was phone?, do you also check your spam folder for submissions? Sometimes, my email gets seen as spam by email providers =/
